Haunted Visions (part 4)

On the other side of town the office was preparing to go for lunch, commotion was coming from all directions. As Sharon worked, she was finding it hard too concentrate but none of the noise was what was putting her off her trail of thought. She barely heard it.1

At that point the phone rang, “Hello David Hill’s office, Sharon speaking can I help?” The line was quiet on the other side of the phone. “Hello, anybody there?” Just as Sharon was going too hang up she heard a voice.2

“Your son, he looks like you, does he have the gift too? Or has he not been blessed by it yet?” A woman asked.3

“Who is this?” Sharon demanded.4

“We spoke earlier this morning, do you remember?” The voice was familiar; it was that strange woman who had been in the office earlier that day. Sharon’s heart dropped. “What do you mean does he have the gift, you leave my child alone do you hear me?” She said shaking.5

“Maybe it hasn’t come to him yet, but it will, it will come sooner or later.” The phone went dead.6

A short slim woman stood at the end of Sharon’s desk, with a radiance about her, brown eyes with such an intense stare, but softly done with a face beautiful and unique. “Everything okay Sharon? She softly spoke.” Sharon looked up from her desk and seen her best friend standing there.7

“Hey Suzi, how you doing?” Sharon asked relieved too see her.8

“I’m doing good, but what about you? You look as if you have seen something unwanted on the bottom of your shoe or something.” She said trying too break the unwanted tension around them.9

Sharon smiled, “am I glad too see you, what you doing in this neck of the woods.” Suzi always had the right thing too say at the time it was needed. “Well, thought I’d pop by and take my friend too lunch, how bout it?” Sharon looked at her then the pile of work on her desk. 10

“Well I shouldn’t as I have all this too do, and want to get away earlier tonight, but hey, what the hell, lets go.” Sharon reached for her coat and purse and got up out of her chair.11

“Great, have some catching up to do, it’s been what? 3 days since we spoke?” Sharon smiled and opened the door of the office too leave.12

“Come on you let’s get out of here.” Sharon didn’t feel much like eating, but she knew if she had stayed in that office any longer she would have gone insane.13

As they were shown too their seat, Suzi looked at Sharon, “You okay? You were awfully quiet on the way over here. As the waiter handed them the menu.14

“Yeah, no worries I am fine.” She said gazing out the window.15

“Who you trying to kid here Sharon? Me or yourself.”16

“Honestly, just been one hell of a morning.” Even though she had known Suzi from being a child, she didn’t want too tell her about the visions, she remembered once she had tried, but ended up turning it into something else so she wouldn’t feel embarrassed. She remembered all of what her mother had went through after telling someone, and Sharon didn’t want too be faced with that. She started too progress back in time back to the day her mother had died.17

December 24th 196818

A child sat in front of the fire drawing a picture; she knew her mother would love it for her Christmas present. While drawing her eyes kept shifting too the tree watching all the presents underneath as the anticipation grew more. But for some reason, it wasn’t a type a child would have seeing all of them presents under the tree, this was a different type. A sense of hope really. Her mother had now been missing for 3 days. Sharon knew she wasn’t coming back, but prayed and hoped that she was wrong. She heard the phone ring and her dad talking to someone in a distressed voice. 19

She stood at the door with it open just enough so she could hear clearly. “You have found her? I’ll be right there.” Her father said. Sharon’s eyes gleamed; maybe her mom was coming home after all. As she watched her dad hang up the phone she ran back too where she had been sitting. A tall dark man entered the room.20

“Honey, I have to go out for a bit okay? Grandma is up stairs if you need her I promise I won’t be long.” He picked Sharon up and took her into his arms and gave her a hug, a one where she thought he’d never let go. 21

“Okay daddy, is mommy coming home?” He looked at the child’s brown eyes.22

“Maybe, just maybe. We’ll see okay? You be good for grandma okay, and I’ll see you when I get back. I love you…”23

Interest is still kept here. The dialog is good and the characters are still fresh in the mind. The flash-back is not, but it will be when I read more. You've kept the mystery lady in a great position; she keeps popping in and out and says just enough to make her creepy! "Haunted Vision" is a fine title to this.

    language: 4, plot: 5, dialog: 5, characters: 4.

I like the way you give out background information piece by piece. It's a very effective way to hold interest and keep the reader hungry. Nice work! Sheryl
