About Me

I started writing creatively in June 2007. Before that, the last time was back in school, over twenty years previous.

In case it's not obvious from the name, I live in the UK, with all the language differences that brings to most other writers of English in the world (well, North America at least).

My Writing
I recently wrote Medic for a competition. It's my first war story and took a bit of friendly reviewing before it struck the tone I intended. Thanks to my critics for that. The last substantial story I wrote before that was Catharsis for a Greeters Competition. It takes about 5-10 minutes to read and is meant to be spooky and creepy while trying out some of my plot turning ideas.

My main focus is on my Heisenberg's Shaman stories, of which I have posted the first, The River, here on storywrite. It has nineteen chapters, a prologue and an epilogue. I am currently working on the second story in the series.

I really need to work on my character development, emotional expression and plot lines, but most of the rest I'm happy with.

To challenge myself, I've tried writing some other, different pieces too. If you are happy to be a little disturbed, please take a look at Barking Dog. I wrote it in response to being told that I don't write poetically or anything but sci-fi and fantasy. It only took 45 minutes to write, followed by another 45 minutes to polish it to a fine finish. I don't expect it to be a pleasure to read, but I hope it's engaging on a visceral level. I also challenge anyone to write a shorter story, as this one all takes place in roughly one second of action!

I again challenged my own writing style with The First Of November. I felt that I had poor grasp of simile and metaphor, so tried to write the piece using the most colourful euphemisms I could. It's certainly colourful, but.... I'll let you be the judge.

To work on my emotional engagement, soon after waking from a very emotional dream (not quite a nightmare though) I wrote Run! Again, challenging my ability to express effectively.

I've written up a writing tip as a story entry for a competition. You never know but Decisions, Decisions might be helpful to you.

 Happy reading.
