My poetry is personal, sometimes fantastical, often probing and analytical. Spiritual and thoughtful much of my work raises questions that go beyond the superficiality of mundane existence, and sometimes falls off from the conventional stream of thought.
I've won several contests and honorable mentions over the years. I've self-published a book of short stories, poetry, and Haiku, entitled "Tales From The Heart." I am regulary published in "Silver Wings" and "Haiku Hippodrome." I've been published Internationally and throughout the United States.
I've traveled as a Storyteller and have appeared in stage productions throughout the years, as well as written, directed, cast and acted in an original Ensemble piece. One of my Poems here on AP was selected for Performance Poetry in India; the title is:
"Above The Slums."
For years, I've sponsored and continue to sponsor the Indiana State Poetry Contest and have taught workshops on poetry, performance and expression.
I much enjoy helping authors, those especially who are looking for helpful suggestions.
I write music as well; two of my pieces have won Gold Trophies and one has won a Silver, here on AP.
I consider myself most fortunate. I've had two Mentors who have encouraged me, criticised me, and applauded my work. I think this support is Vital in becoming a dedicated Poet, Writer and functioning human being.
I have enjoyed many writers over the years from Helen Steiner Rice, Richard Bach, Edgar Allen Poe, and many in the in between and after times. Shakespeare, Rumi, Hafiz, Becket, Neil Simon, and I most enjoy the authentic flavor and color of the poetry by Poet, Songwriter, Rod McKuen. His writing richly and uniquely expresses his obsession for physical love, as well as his great love and passion for the sea, which has carried him, and his writing, far beyond the flesh.
If you asked me what I've learned so far from life, I'd say that I've realized that I must live my life at risk: 24/7 and when I'm unable physically to do so, not to resist, what is. Otherwise, when I awake from my slumber, I find myself in a garden of weeds, wondering where my Passion and Joy went while I lost precious time bemoaning my losses.
Personal Quote: We have two tongues: the tongue in our mouth which does the yappin' and flappin' and the tongue in our shoe which does the walkin' and talkin'."
