Still seeking

A slight change in my focus has occurred. Nothing major, just a venture into the realms of fiction. Most of my stuff is real life or based on real life. This is different. What a bummer, I have to make up my characters, their habits, mannerisms and physique; then make them act real and sound real when I read what is on the page. So far, so good,[I think] but time will tell which way the cookie crumbles.
I have not given up writing poetry but have found a change is occurring there too. Perhaps time and tide are changing my outlook. If so, I hope it's for the better. I do know I think more about what I am writing in terms of readability and less about volume. Also I am planning what to write about. That applies to all of my writing.
Sometimes I see something that hits the right spot and a poem appears, as if from nowhere, complete with all that is necessary. I don't discount these, even though they may not be planned, as some have proved very popular with my legions of adoring fans [ .]
I shall keep on writing and hoping for that elusive best seller to make my fame and fortune for the benefit for my descendants. I am getting older every day and although I enjoy my writing I am not fool enough to believe that I will see my stuff in a book. I will try, but reality
indicates I shall probably not complete anything good enough for the discerning publishers to accept with pleasure. That will not detract from my pleasure and satisfaction in writing it, whatever "it " is. Thank you for reading. I may add to this later.

I do have some parts of a sort of memoir written out but closed so far. My life story is a lixture of just about everything. But aren't we all a mix of many things.
Thank you for you comment and your suggestion. I will think on it.

Keep on writing Mr. Bob, Sir

I have read with pleasure your tales of the past and I'm sure your fictional characters will come "alive" once you have breathed oxygen into their lungs.

Always keep in mind the story about "Gone With The Wind." I believe it was rejected about 36 times. Harry Potter was rejected also, with one publisher reckoning it would never appeal to kids. 'Ecky thump! even Elvis and the Beatles were rejected first off. As far as I know, they all made a couple of dollars apiece along the line

I shall keep writing, my friend and thank you for your support. A couple of years ago I could not type, had never clicked the mouse on a PC, and everything I had written was mainly useful for starting the fire. Now I am hooked. I write. I also have a couple of other things on the go to preserve a balance. I am fortunate so far in that I have no rejections whatsoever. Maybe that is because I haven't submitted anything yet.

I have the 'honour' of one reject slip which came from 'Readers Digest'.

It was sooo long ago it was back in the time when Olivetti typewriters were in vogue and I was but a mere teenager *shudders*.

        At present my scorecard reads:

        Lawrie 0
        Rejects 1

I don't count Readers Digest. I sent a couple of things to them over the years but they don't even send a rejection slip out here. So I shall claim as my scorecard:

          Bob 0
          Rejects 0

Gotta knock all three stumps over just to get a LBW decision

  • I write poetry, reasonably well with rhyme and rhythm; I need to change and expand. I know that. Doing it is another matter. I also write stories, not great but readable. • It's february, 2009, NSW, Australia. The bushfire season is on us with a vengence this year. Although we are not near any fires our horizons are hazy with smoke. We watch, we wait, we worry. Will we get one here? Never far from my mind is the fact that it only takes a lightning strike, or some brainless idio
