I write poetry, reasonably well with rhyme and rhythm; I need to change and expand. I know that. Doing it is another matter. I also write stories, not great but readable. Both types of writing are from life or nature. Where do I go from here and how do I go about getting there ? Questions I can't answer at the moment, but I will eventually get where I want to go.
Writing being an form of art, you can't help me. No matter your skills, education and teaching talents. I must do this alone, like any other writer, yet I am not alone. Each one of you on site, whether poet writer, story writer, blogger or just someone who comments now and then; you are all with me all the time, day in and day out.
I am not writing this for you, it's for me, to remind me that I can do it. In my lifetime I have had a wealth of experiences and a multitude of escapades. I can sit with you in the lounge room and tell you a wondrous array of tales and yarns, no problems. Then I sit down to write them out for posterity and my brain seems to disengage from my memory and try to write to some formula or other. Disaster strikes, and another yarn is filed in the too-hard bin. I go and write another predictable poem. Not bad at all, but written from within my comfort zone. It's readable, quite popular, and relatively easy.
Change !!! So I did, I wrote "Old Tom", not easy, but still from life and from my own experience. Next came " Seeking Answers ", where I question the path I chose to get where I am. Not so popular, more serious and with perhaps a little more of myself written in. Risky? Time will tell.

Ditto. I like reading the stories that are good writing, not have big words in it that I have to stumble though....the best writing is the one easiest to read. Thanks for sharing.

I think I use writing as a form of communication and the simple language we use every day in speech is good enough the use when writing. I am not an Academic and do not write for them either. I would like a wider readership of my stuff than mere academics.
Thanks once again for you visit and comments, always welcome and appreciated.

I like your writing. Your stories have a nice flow, a simplicity in the telling, and are full of heart. I will have to check out your "Old Tom" and "Seeking Answers"...

Agriculture ... horticulture ... farming generally. In Australia, as in any country, the farmer depends on the weather for the success of his enterprise. Even those who have the benefit of irrigation still depend on rain being there to fill the storage dams and reservoirs. A slight change in my focus has occurred. Nothing major, just a venture into the realms of fiction. Most of my stuff is real life or based on real life. This is different. What a bummer, I have to make up my characters, their habits, mannerisms and physique; then make them act real and sound real when I ron Apr 5 11:51 PM, In My own personal thoughts. 300 words. → 7 comments, Add one?

It's february, 2009, NSW, Australia. The bushfire season is on us with a vengence this year. Although we are not near any fires our horizons are hazy with smoke. We watch, we wait, we worry. Will we get one here? Never far from my mind is the fact that it only takes a lightning strike, or some brainless idio
