I almost killed a dog

Or...did I really kill it?

How was I supposed to know...

It wasn't the first time I saw a dog

and it probably wasn't the last time I'll see a dog...

It was tied to a post full of christmas trees.
It was there, innocent, a golden retriever
with big, pitiful eyes....
I was taken by those big, pitiful eyes

So, i reached down to pet him/her
although i was hesitant
because most dogs wouldn't allow me to pet them

but this dog did
and i was touched

it was then i felt an immediate attachment to the dog
and then my group and I went into the cafe that was nearby
I bought a rainbow cookie
I took a bite
our teacher and I talked...and talked for a while
most of our group and I finally came out

and I was tempted to feed the dog my cookie
just a piece, that's all
so, i took the bitten cookie from my bag
and faced the cookie toward the dog
the golden retriever was amazed
i swayed the cookie forward and back from him
i was almost about to just take it away but...
instead, i let it touch its pitiful mouth
and i though it was just gonna take a witty bitty bite
but instead, it took the whole thing

it's crazy, how i forgot about dog's instincts
but unfortunately, i almost forgot about the dog's species
it was a great commotion
as the others around me were shocked, distraught, panicky
it was all spelled out:
I fed the dog chocolate
and
chocolate is poison to a dog
The owner was right inside the cafe
the owner could've been rich
he could sue
i said sorry like multiple times
and prayed that the dog survived
because i almost killed it

Well, try not to worry too much because although chocolate is 'poison' it really depends on how much you gave the dog and how big the dog is. In all he cases I've dealt with firsthand, with family pets or friend's dogs, they got sick, buit the only one who died wasn't because of the chocolate. It was because she ate a whole bag of hersey's kisses and the tinfoil choked her v.v

So try not to worry. As long as you told the owner, he could still go get the dog checked out and make sure things will be okay, so I'm sure htings'll work out.
