Halloween, originally called Samhain (pronounce "Sow-in"), was a Celtic holiday which pre-dates Christianity. 5
6
When colonists moved to the Americas, they made Jack o' Lanterns out of pumpkins, which were readily available, to scare off the spirits they believed were able to roam free on All Hallow's Eve.7

My Halloween has been okay. It's my favorite holiday (because it is one of the few original Celtic holidays that Christians haven't completely twisted to their favor yet, and still has very old traditions). I'm kind of depressed today though.11
12
We went to a costume party last night at my friends' house (Casey and Brian). It was pretty cool. I dressed like a Scottish princess and John was a vampire. Another guy there dressed like Bravehart, so I wasn't the only one in tartan plaid. 13
14
Usually my parents come to our house for All Hallow's Eve, because we get lots of trick-or-treaters and a lot of people decorate in our development. Instead, they went out of town this year. So it was just me and John and there weren't even as many trick-or-treaters as usual. We actually had about a handful of candy and toothbrushes left over (usually we run out). 15
16
We decorated over the top, but not as much as we used to. We put up lots of jack-o-lanterns, a light-up ghost, a fog machine, a spider that drops down from our porch, spider webs all over the porch, candles, and tiki torches. 17
18
Of course, half way through the night, it had to start raining. 19

I guess I'm just kind of in a really low mood, and nothing seems as fun or cool as usual. John really hurt my feelings about it too, rudely stating "I hate when you're depressed like this." 21
22
So do I. So do I.....23
24
Well we're off to Sheetz to get some food, then watch a movie or two I guess. 25
26
Watch out for evil spirits. 27
