America, land of the free, home of the brave, roost of the cuckoos.1
It is, frankly, disgusting what has/is happening to the USA, and it scares me. Currently, they have a Democratic leader who is trying to bring in universal health care. That would provide basic health care needs to cover every citizen in the nation. The USA is the only industrialised country in the world that does not have that.2
Now, something that large should create debate, but the debate should be kept in check, and debated on the facts. The problem is it's not; it's being debated in the advertising, the hand outs, and the scare campaigns. The news channels shout rhetoric from both sides without actually addressing any of the issues. We see campaigns against it using words like "Death Care" "Obamacare is NAZI" "Communism is back" "We didn't elect a Marxist" and "Commander is Theif" (sic).3
Why is this happening? In my opinion, fundamental education. The most important thing you could possibly learn in life is critical thinking. The ability to look at evidence, weigh it up against other evidence, look for reasons to discredit it, and so on. The problem is that the mass populous either doesn't know this, or ignores it. Either way, without critical thinking, the most outlandish stupid comments are allowed to take root and spread, especially if there is financial backing.4
And so America is spoon fed a diet of Glenn Becks and O'Reliys and Scarborough and all the rest, and so to on the left (perhaps to a lesser extent) with Bill Maher, and Olberman.5
America needs to seriously increase education levels, somehow curb this stupid "opinion news" style, and get some true journalism back, before it goes to hell in a basket.
