All things must change....

To quote John Denver "The sun is slowly fading in the western sky" "Sometimes it takes forever the day to end",well that's just about how it seems today, for it is the ending of yet another chapter in my life. Many happy times have I spent on the old farm I've come to know so well. There have been sad days intermingled with days of laughter, coupled with gentle evenings watching as I have done today, the sun going down across the meadow and listening to the night birds call their hunting cries for one last time. A lingering sadness has attached itself to my heartstrings as I recall all the precious memories that I have collected along the way. Early evening shadows danced amongst the oak trees as I released my silent thoughts freely with a tear.Tomorrow all this will belong to yesterday and a new chapter will begin to weave with me my ongoing tapestry, filled stitch by stitch with that which is yet to come.Strange how everything changes and sometimes change sneaks up without any warning at all. Here today gone tomorrow, and isn't that eactly how life is, never knowing what lies ahead. For me it is not just a change of place or people, it is the end of an era .Forty five years with horses and never once regreted any of them, but the time has come to let go of the gallops across the fields, the silent early morning rides , the sweet smell of new mowen hay and the companionship of a much loved and trusted friend to fill my days.Darkness almost upon me as I stare out of my window at the night sky and marvel at the most amazing sunset, reminding me of how very precious this life is and all the wonders it has to offer. Tomorrow I shall walk forward into whatever awaits me with a glad heart, but just for tonight I shall remember........with gratitude.......

It too recalls all of your happy memories and will shine just as bright on the new ones while not forgetting those you have packed in your little spotted handkerchief

All things must change, we know that. Isn't it wonderful to be in a position to reflect upon a time and place where life was kind, acknowledge our gratitude for the pleasure received and say goodbye. Looking forward with confidence to what ever may be coming. I sort of envy you, and wish you well. Thank you for sharing your feelings and your confidence in the future.

    Hi Mal,
You know in my own life I have worked out that I have never grown with age but I've aged as I have grown. It is almost the start of Spring here and on a few occassions in my life I have sensed the 'inner' change that a new season will bring. I feel it very strongly at the moment so I related to this very deeply.

Change is growth they say and growth (in a spiritual sense) is really only the obtaining of new wisdom and experience huh?

The best part of what you have written here is knowing that you never took your time on the farm for granted. It seems you consciously appreciated it and cherished it everyday. What ever you now write as your next chapter will be founded upon the person who 'grew' from your time on the land. Now and forever a part of you.

I am glad you look forward with faith and hope.... but I am glad you took a moment to say goodbye, thank you, I love you, I will always cherish you.

Thank you for sharing this, you have written your heart here and you have expressed a beautiful melancholy. The very best of luck and every good thoughtful wish to you my friend.

    Sorry for the oversized comment

Andrew, thank you for such a lovely comment .Somethings always remain tucked away inside your heart and never depreciate with time. To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.Onward into tomorrow with a tinge of sadness and a world of hope.....Bless you....mal
