So What? I’m Addicted!

As I was told recently by one my teachers, all great stories begin with, “So there I was…” I don’t know if this will end up to be a great story yet, but I’m going to tell you anyway…

So there I was, walking out of the movie theater after watching “Julie and Julia” with my grandmother, aunt, cousin, and my mom. Suddenly my cousin, Kristi, decided she wanted to start a blog just like Julie but had nothing to write about. We spent the whole car ride home discussing what she could write about (not that she would do it anyway). It was very boring and slightly annoying. Anyway, I started thinking about what I would do for a blog and I couldn’t think of anything.

Last night, my mom mentioned something about sugar being addictive that reminded me of something I learned in wellness class freshman year. It takes exactly thirty days to break a habit or addiction. She was also giving me a lecture at the time about how bad I eat and stuff like that. I don’t know. I wasn’t really listening (don’t tell her I said that!). That’s when it hit me. I should do an experiment on what happens when a sugar/junk food addict becomes “sober.”

Today’s date is August 19, 2009. I will be starting on September 1, 2009 (I figure I should give myself time to say goodbye). Everyday until then I will make a list of everything I eat so I will know how much (a lot!) my diet will have to change. Starting on September 1, I will be writing a blog everyday, unless something tragic happens (like death... or homework) preventing me from doing so. Also I will be having my mom write a blog once a week to note the changes that I don't notice myself.

*Please Note: I am not doing this to lose weight. I like my weight the way it is now. The ONLY purpose of this experiment is to become healthier and how it effects my behavior, energy, and the way I pay attention.

Well, that’s all for now (mostly because I’m hungry and going to get some french fries and a hamburger). Next month is going to be hard…

    Oh honey do be careful

    Do you know that a hamburger and fries has like a cup of sugar inside its one of those things they dont tell you about . You can eat all kinds of fruit all day and not get that amount of sugar for the sweet in fruits is natural .You can eat all the lettuce you want and I use to roll up pieces and dunk them in mustard but thats just me .If you stay active all the time you can eat whatever you want .Just walk a lot and bike maybe play tennis just as long as your moving you will burn off those callories and have fun doing it

      Thanks. And, I know. That's why I am doing this - to become healthier. But I will be continuing with my normal way of eating and recording it until September 1 when I eat all healthy and kick out the junk and sugar.
