the numbers came fluidly to me, and my thumbs depressed the small silver buttons with ease, though my eyes had blurred with tears, so that I could no longer see them.
The sound of her phone ringing shocked my ear, a trill sound that my ear and body was sick of by now. As I heard the familliar tone of the answering machine, I hung up automatically. A small laugh came from my throat, but both felt and sounded more like a choke.
"I had forgotten the morning would even come."
My last three words had been cut off sharply, and I knew all too well by now what the sound of her phone was, when it had hung up. The sound had rudely inturrupted me a few times tonight, and I didn't care to hear it again.
I needed to ask her the time. The time, that part of me wondered would pass by tomorrow like it had today, and the day before.
