Okay, bear with me here, because this is my exceptionally displeased rant about sexuality, and why I hate the world right now.
It's Gay Pride Week in my city this week (May 15th-24th). Now, what you have to understand is, while I'm engaged to a man, I am bisexual. So, Pride is important to me. And I know we'd all like to think that, as a society, we're open-minded, accepting, etc etc... but let me tell you, we have a long way to go... as I've had cause to realise...
When did it become necessary for me to "prove" my sexuality? I wore a top today, as did several of my friends, with various Pride statements: "Closets are for clothes", "straight but not narrow", "I kiss girls (and boys too)"... you get the idea. And around campus, people start telling me to "prove" that I'm bisexual.
What??
When did that happen? When Katy Perry turned bisexuality into an art form?? When?! Does anyone walk up to straight couples on the street, and demand that they "prove" that they're straight? When did society get so damn rude?? When did this become acceptable behaviour?? And why am I the only one talking about it?
I'll probably write more about this later... right now, I'm too busy fuming.
