Jannie Balliett

Author, Editor and Freelance Writer

On September 12th, I lost my daughter in a horrific car accident. I had to make the funeral arrangements for her husband, and just got home. (If anyone has wondered where I've been.)
No parent should have to bury their child.

Update. It turns out my daughter was killed by the passenger in her SUV who wanted to kill himself. He took my daughter with him.

I wrote a dedication poem, I Celebrate. Please read it.

Jannie Balliett is a published author, freelance writer, editor, advice columnist, and founder of an Online writers workshop, teaching the new and intermediate writer.

She is a member of Sisters In Crime, The Short Mystery Fiction Society, Brazos Writers Group, and other writer affiliations. She is networked with various writer friends and authors on Crimespace and Ryze writer/author network communities.

Jannie is currently writing a paranormal crime thriller, LEAVE A WHISPER, with another novel marinating. She’s written a children’s book, THE TAIL THAT WAGGED THE DOG, about her grandson and his Boxer, Rocky, that teaches children it’s okay to be different. A series is planned for Rocky and his adventures with a lesson and moral in each story. Her work of short stories, poetry, and flash fiction is published in The Writers Post Journal magazine and Whim's Place first anthology of flash stories, ON A WHIM, that will be available at Barnes & Nobles and Amazon in 2008.

She writes thrillers: paranormal crime and paranormal mysteries. She also writes short stories. Poetry is just for her personal pleasure, although published-- and some of her poetry is dark and written especially for her novel, LEAVE A WHISPER.

She is a editor for her editorial service, Balliett Editorial Services, helping other writers prepare their works for submission. She recently started web hosting for personal and business websites, Best Deal Web Hosting. She has advice columns, Ask JR on Advicenators.com and Ask JR.blogspot.com which she finds enjoyable and challenging.

She’s a transplanted Texan, has raised three grown Texans, has six grandchildren, another on the way, and one great-granddaughter. She lives in Austin with her female Boxer, Roxxie, who always listens without interrupting, never talks back, and honestly critiques her work better than anyone.

"In every talented person with a small desire to write-- hides a truly gifted writer, once armed with a little knowledge." --Jannie Balliett

LEAVE A WHISPER: There’s a serial killer on the loose terrorizing and mutilating women in Detective Brad Meadows’ city. He's vigorously trying to solve the case, has no leads, and is at his wit’s end.

Meadows recruits retired, but prominent forensic psychic, Toni Taft to help him catch the killer.

Together, they are a team to be reckoned with.

But what Toni hasn't anticipated is, she's traded in her serene retirement for unrelenting terror.

She has visions of what's going to happen next and she can hear the killer’s demented chants in her head.

She's connected to him somehow.

Footnote: I'm not here for writing advice-- however, comments and friendships are okay and welcomed. I am here to search for new talent, keep up with the ever-changing genres, but not to receive advice. It astonishes me, and never ceases to piss me off, the vast numbers of posted stories with numerous misspelled words! Use the simple "Spell Check" tool that's built in most word programs. That will correct the misspelling. Why post a story that is riddled with misspelled words, showing your lack of seriousness and pride that writers should have? I am enjoying the few members that are really and truly talented, as young as 14 years old, that write as good as any published author I know {personally know!} and their receptiveness to critique: learning to improve their already-- great writing!
