  1. - Welcome to the storywrite tutorial -

    This tutorial is designed to show you as easily as possible how to some basic things on the site:
    1. Learn to navigate the site
    2. Add a story
    3. "Feature" your story
    4. Find a story to comment on

  2. Step 1 - Learn your way around

    First thing is to learn how to get around the site. There are four basic areas of navigation:


    1. Top: The basic areas of the site
    2. Top sidebar: A sidebar goes on the side of the screen! We show things relative to the current "area" here. Sometimes this area doesn't exist at all, and you just see the "bottom sidebar" higher.
    3. Bottom sidebar: Things which are always there, like the chatterbox, online list, and featured stories.
    4. Bottom links: Handy links like to the chatroom, or ones that didn't fit in elsewhere.

    Still confused? There's a longer explanation of the areas of the page on the general help page, but I suggest you just dive into the tutorial for now.

    You can always get to a help page by clicking Help in the top links. Then to get back to the tutorial, you would look under Help Areas and click Tutorial.

  3. Step 2 - Add your story


    1. In the "always there" part of the sidebar links, you'll see a section called Your Account.

      Choose Add a story in these links.
    2. Enter your story information. It's best to write your story on your computer first, and save a copy there just in case. Then choose Edit → Select All, then Edit → Copy, then in the story form at storywrite choose Edit → Paste
    3. Click Submit Story at the bottom of the page
    4. You'll be taken to your new story. It's on the internet for anyone to see, and hopefully you'll get a comment soon!

  4. Step 3 - Add a "Feature" or "Reward" on your Story

    To get more comments on your story, you want to put it in the featured box that stays at the bottom right corner of the page. Stories in the box rotate randomly, so they may change from page to page.


    What is a "featured story", or "reward"?
    • You earn points by commenting.
    • You then "pay" a certain number of points to reward comments on your story.
    • People who comment on your story will get extra points, so stories rewarding comments often get more comments.
    • Your story will also be rotated through in the box in the lower right corner of the screen, labeled Featured Stories

    1. Under the Featured Stories heading, click add yours.
    2. Choose your story from the drop-down list of stories:

    3. The point cost for each comment varies depending on how many other people want to be in the featured box. This is shown as "current cost per comment is X"
    4. The number of comments you can reward is shown as "You can reward X comments"
    5. Enter a number of comments to reward in the box. The point cost will update to it's right.

    6. Click 'Add Reward'. You'll be taken to a list of your current rewards, and how many comments are left on them.

  5. Step 4 - Comment on a story!

    Lets read a really good story.
    • Click Stories in the top links section.
    • This is a list of the stories that are most popular this week.
    • Choose one that sounds interesting to you. Maybe it's in a category you're interested in?
    • Enter a comment at the bottom of the story. Often people will "return" comments, and comment on one of your stories.
    • If you think this story was really good, give it high overall rating:

    • The number of 7,8,9, and 10 ratings you have are limited each week, so are more valuable in deciding who shows up on the top of the "best stories" list.
