(A) your favorite author.
(B ) your preffered writing style. in other words, what you most often use. this includes perspective (1st,2nd,or 3rd person). Genre (action, fantasy, romance, suspense, mystery, philosophy, poetry, whatever. the more detailed the better.) and a brief description (that's one paragraph) of the best story YOU'VE EVER WRITTEN.
(C) you favorite artist, album, or song
(E) (i dont believe in D's) (that's a joke, i'm not serious) the best one-three sentences yoru've ever written. it can be incredibly clever, a wise proverb, whatever, but it needs to be original and no longer than 4 sentences.
(F) the name and occupation of your favorite character.
so after i get that comment, i will hit you back with a prompt. you will write what i give you. easy enough, right?
here;s where it gets interesting. the prompt will be in direct opposition to everything you're used to. if you write romance, it could be the story of a brutal hitman in the 14th century. if you like fantasy, it might be a complicated non-fantastic crime mystery.
and this is the meat of this contest. the point here is to help you advance as a writer. and one of the easiest (and most difficult) ways to improve is to step outside of your comfort zone and stretch your boundaries. the prompt is your envelope, and i'm here to help you push it.
and, for the first time, in the spirit of co-operation, i will be writing my own story for the contest. don't worry, i'm not taking any of the awards, but i'll be writing something to push my boundaries as well, just to show that i'm not hanging you out to dry. and so you can understand what my comfort zone is, here's a brief explanation.
i write almost exclusively action. i create violence with eveyr stroke of the pen. i have a hard time taking my time. i want to jump to the cool parts right off. my characters wield blades and bullets, crack bones and crash cars. so expect my story to be something different from that.
beyond that stuff, here are the ground rules:
-keep language down. some is okay, i understand that sometimes in fiction, foul language is a fact of life. but don't go crazy here. i want to be able to read and notice something other than the cursing. comprende?
-try and keep grammar under control. no text slang, try and keep the spelling proper, and none of ThIS cRaP!
-length isn't much of an issue. i read at a remarkable rate, and i make it a priority, so don't worry about going to long. as long as it's under say... 6500 words, i'll be fine. it should be at least 400 though. not a strict rule, you "might" win with a 300 word piece, but it would take some work.
and absolutely most important:
TELL ME IF YOU DONT LIKE THE PROMPT! if you have issues, let me know. it's supposed to be challenging, but i'm a little crazy sometimes, so if you don't think you want to write your prompt, let me know and i'll give you some alternates. im VERY flexible.
this contest will not run a mere two weeks like it says. i understand the SW limit, but that simply isn't enough for someone who i assume has a life outside of writing to enter, get a prompt, and write a decent story. look for this contest to run from 3-4 weeks. i am flexible in this as well. if you need two more days to get your story finished, let me know and i'll work with you. but do not continuously stall. i won't be so cool about that.
and this is vital. paste the prompt i gave you, or at least paraphrase it, and put that in the author's notes. comprende?
anyways, those are the nuts and bolts. expect some totally new, totally crazy prompts that will push the limit of both your abilities, and general sanity.
alright, my entry for the contest is on my page, pretty obvious. if you entrants want to judge it, critique it, whatever, hit me.
so there it is people, cant wait for some entries!
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 20, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 400, Bronze: 200, Honorable mention: 4 people
- Final notes: alright people, now that i have finally felled the beast that is finals, i have gotten around to judging this contest. and the results are in. first place goes to "Just my Heart." this person managed to come up with something genuinely unexpected from a pretty specific prompt, and they (he? she?) did it exceptionally well. BRAVO!
second place goes to "Power in his hands." well written, and this person stuck to the prompt like superglue. aside from the expected minor errors, this was fabulous. BRAVO!
third place is "Dr. Dunno." this story, (which is exceptionally long for a contest entry, but still interesting) was great. well done with the cliches and the genre. great job indeed. BRAVO!
honorable mention goes to "The Two Sues." this was also realy great. i wish i could hand out four major prizes, but alas, it wasn't in the cards. well done thought. BRAVO!
sorry this contest ended up taking all semester people. school happened, as did life and family. thanks to everyone who entered or showed interest. maybe i'll try it again over summer, when people and i will have time for it.
thanks again!

Amazing contest. SO bookmarked!
-
my firs time
(A) L.A. Meyer. (Author of the Bloody jack series)
(
I like to write in third person. My favorite genre is fiction (any kind!). I have started many stories, but I have never finished one. I am sorry that this may be disappointing. I just start a story (or whatever is in my head) and than come back and make changes and it is never finished. Is this a bad pattern? Probably right considering the fact that I want to make it as an author.
(C) My favorite artist is Leonardo DaVinci. My favorite band though is Skillet.
(E) Best three sentences. Here it goes:
1. When scientists even embark on what we believe to be the impossible they make it the possible.
2. it’s when my head is empty of anything to write that I am most productive when it comes to originality.
3. I feel as if my mind now contains too much water and now must spilled out in writing.
(F) If you mean a character from a favorite book of mine then it’s Jackie(or Mary) from the bloody jack series. She is a lot of things through out the series. She is a ships boy, a beggar, a runaway, a captain, a pirate, thieve, lover, dancer, singer, etc.
take it easy on me okay! it is my first time so yeah!

all right, here's your objective. write non fictiion. but in a creative way. let me clarify. i want you to observe. i want observations. pick a place, and write about everything you see. i want to know how it tastes, feels, smells, sounds, looks. and not juust "it smelled like pizza" but more creative, more descriptive. "a faint hint of tomato sauce, a rolling wave of bread dough, and an avalanche of grease slammed into me like a solid object." notice sunbeams, people's smiles, dust, but most importantly, really pour yourself into this. because you want to be a novelist, this will be good for you in two ways:
writing something different for you (non-fiction) will stretch you, force youto examine what it is that you do to write fiction.
and also, because the mainstay of a good writer of any type, especially fiction, is the art of observation. if you spend time simply watching and considering, you might be shocked at how it can influence your writing.
and here is the most important rule: this has to be real observation. don't make this up. i want a real place. not like an address or anything, but it needs to be your real experience. whenever your in any kind of situation, if you get a moment to contemplate, just take a mental picture of that place. you can write about it later. but no fictional experiences! now have fun! -
-
ALRIGHT! :)
Hey, don't have it finished yet. Just had a question: When I am finished, how do I send it to you??(I am pretty new at this)
-
-
I love Bloody Jack! And I hardlt ever run across anyone else who has heard of her; she is vastly underappreciated.

Rose Speaking
(A) None. Although Stephenie Meyer was up there a little while ago, I wouldn't say she's really a favorite. Stephen King's pretty good, I guess. I don't really have one favorite author.
(B ) Young adult angst. Prefer first, but I'm good for third, too. I'm not sure - but personally, I think the best story I've ever written is a piece based on a life experience of mine (it's not real, it's BASED on reality) about a girl who's overcome with the pain of being rejected, and feeling undeserving of it, so she takes the top of a tuna can and slits her wrist with it. Stereotypical, I know. It was a oneshot. I thrill in oneshots.
(C) Hmm. I'm fond of Evanescence, but there are definitely others I love. Fallen's their best. I like Queen, too. Wicked's pretty...well, wicked. Some preppy music - DJ Sammy, Cascada, Kelly Clarkson, I like them, too. Favorite song? At present, no song compares to The Reason, but I love all of Fallen, and I'm in a very Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic mood right now.
(E) Only three? Hang on, this could take a while to narrow down...
"Sobs came now, uncontrolled and unstopped from my throat, spilling from my soul, tears dripped down my face and to the tap water, the blood. All mixed together in a gross, mutilation soup."
It's from that same oneshot. It's probably not my best "one to three sentences", but I just like the words "mutilation soup". Another good part of the same oneshot is this:
"I popped the thin swath of ragged metal from the can, revealing the fleshy pink meat underneath."
For some reason, my teacher really liked that description. Okay, sure o.O.
(F) My favorite character that I DIDN'T create is Yagami Raito, who is a psychopathic head of a police organization, the world's leading detective, and an aspiring God. My favorite character that I DID create is also a psychopath, one who thrills more in killing than Raito, and is a high school student. His name is Ryan McKinnon-Fry, but that really doesn't matter.
There's only one genre I ask you to not give me, because for the life of me, I cannot do it: Comedy. I'm begging you, anything but comedy. Anything. If you feel like I have to do this genre, I'll drop the contest, because there's nothing in the world I'll successfully write comedy for. -
-
are you sure? i mean, could you take a dark comedy? or maybe you could make fun of yourself. i mean, your genre and style are so danged serious. but regardless, it doesn't matter, because you're writing a love story. that's right, a non-dark, non-suicidal, happy ending love story. but you will have little room to strut your angst stuff, because the heroine, from whose point of view you will write, is blind. completely. whether or not she always had been is up to you. but she does need to stay that way. no miraculous healings here. and remember, happy, romantic endings. and any tuna shall be of the strictly non-canned type.
-
-
Nope. Comedy is strictly off limits for me. Being funny is like having common sense - it just doesn't come to some people.
Marvelous! I can so do this.
I shall get right on that. Lovely! I'm pumped ^.^.
Lol. You know what those tuna can lids can do to people *tuts*.
*ponders* Although that amount of mush might make me suicidal - if I die, it's on your head.
-
-
-
This sounds like fun
I'll give it a try
(A) Oh help, I have so many, but I'll go with Elizabeth Gaskell here.
(B ) I normally write in third person, but have used second a couple of times just for the hell of it. My stories are mostly realistic and somewhat melancholic. My best story? The one I like the best myself isn't quite finished yet, but it is a detective story with a bit of a twist and it have some elements of magical realism.
(C) At the moment my favorite artist is Danish singer/songwriter Tina Dico and my favorite song by her is "Magic".
(E) It's nothing special, but I quite like this passage:
No, Henry wasn’t slowly getting estranged from his wife because of the fact that she wasn’t nineteen anymore. If not for the fact that she reminded him daily he wouldn’t even have noticed. But he did find it difficult to find his Henrietta hidden under the constant bitterness.
(F) I can't choose, sorry. -
-
quick question: what kind of genre do you usually write? I.E. romance, sci-fi, historical fiction, that kind of thing. that'll make way easier for me to pick a good prompt.
-
-
I always have trouble labeling my own stuff, but I write almost entirely realistic stories, as in no fantasy, sci-fi and the like. I can't really narrow it down any further than that.
-
-
mwahah! no fantasy? i think not. your main character shall be named Cassius, and he's an elf. i want fantasy! elves and ogres! wizards and dwarves! magic and swords! this is first person. now have fun!
-
-
Oh help... But I guess I asked for it :-)
-
-
-
-
-
(A) Stephenie Meyer (TWILIGHT)
(B )My favourite genres are fantasy and romance, fiction. I prefer 1st person. The best story I've ever written, on here? Deirbhile.
(C) Evanescence, and Taylor Swift. The Open Door and Beautiful Eyes. Song... My Immortal
(E) Are you sure slut-face is a virgin? Why the hell can't I remember? I knew then, that I needed to take a chance, but I couldn't bring myself to do it; life is about chances, you can't live without them, I am such a hypocrite.
(F) Edward Cullen. High school student/father/vampire -
-
alright vampire fan, here's the deal. we're going to play a game called "Anthemis' rules" (i'm anthemis)
first rule: absolutely no vampires for you.
Second rule: there's going to need to be a talking squirrel.
third rule: main character's name is Kendelyn Hunter. and she is a weather lady.
fourth rule: space aliens. they're coming. specifically, they're coming in this story. in the form of... ... whatever. you're writing this story, not me.
so get to it!
-
-
First shot...
(A) Your favorite author. -- Tamora Pierce
(B ) Your preffered writing style. -- I prefer to write in first person romance story. I have dabbled in others but I focus around that. My favorite story of mine is the story of a girl not getting her perfect man. Lark just want's a nice man who treats her like a princess, but when she gets him it's not as much as it seems like. And now an annoying asshole comes around claiming that she'd like him better.
(C) You favorite artist, album, or song -- Favorite song of current is U + UR Hand. Favorite artist would be Queen.
(E) 'They remind you of a cloudy fall storm right before the skies unleash a fury of rain upon the world.' From my story "Étoile Amour".
'“You’re on.” He whispered into my ear, sending shivers down my back.' - From "A Handheld Guide to: Asshole 101".
'The next day (four coffees, a pair of jeans, and three homework assignments later) we met again.' - "Headphones and Trains (iii & iv)".
(F) Jane Prince, student and part-time worker at a second hand book store called Frozen.
Hit me with your best shot! *starts singing*
Sky♥ -

alright, your character is a guy named Jackson Collins, he's a freelance hostage negotiator, called in by the families of those who have been kidnapped. he negotiates, plans, investigates, and if necessary kicks in doors and shoots people to get the hostage back. comprende? oh, and this is first person. and he's got a sidekick/slash hacker/ the voice in his earpiece called marie. have fun!
-
-
Here goes...
A. Okay my favorite author is Stephen King!!!!!
B. I usually write in 3rd person…but lately I’ve been experimenting with 1st…. I usually write suspense and very light horror (most of my works are creepy…not horrific)
The best story, in my opinion, that I’ve ever written would have to be Tears to be Wept (still a work in progress) and it’s a fantasy/romance/suspense/possible horror story about a vampire that only drinks tears and a woman that’s cursed with narcissism. The vampire’s sister is trying to wipe out the human race and so he has to stop her…well, that’s what I’m going for…
C. My favorite song today is “Pegadito” by Tommy Torres
E. so it took me a while to find the three sentences I thought might be some good ones…here goes…
1. "You need not be wary of me," he let out another chuckle and continued, "the one you need be wary most is of the one whose hand encompasses your own." - Creature in the Grass
2. Their miniature arms, legs, and/or snouts peeked out from the murky waters of the embalming fluid to be grasped and then pulled from their formaldehyde purgatory. - Piggy Cadaver Heaven
3. Hollow eyes greet me from the parallel dimension of mirrors. - The Void of Non-Feeling
F. Lemont is my favorite character from Tears to be Wept…he’s a vampire…and his occupation is trying to save the human race from the wrath of his sister… -
-
alright, here's what i want you to do. give me a first person account of the happiest day of your life. i want descriptions that jump out at me. use metaphors and vivid writing. and make it happy! comprende?
-
-
ahhh crap...pues...yo comprendo...
-
-
-
A: Chuck Palahnuik or Anthony Burgess.
B: I usually like to write in the first person, and occasionally second person. I try to experiment a lot with my writing. Drugs seem to be a reoccuring theme in my stories.
C: My favorite artist is probobly Radiohead or Modest Mouse. My favorite album is The Lonesome Crowded West. My favorite song is Winged Wicked Things by Sunset Rubdown.
E: 1) There is nothing lonelier than drinking vodka straight from the bottle in the back of a truck in the middle of the night.
2) You realize then that were all just a pin on a sleeve on a jacket that God wears when he goes to a party.
3) You know what’s nice? When you’re that special kind of drunk, where you are still functional, but it feels like your watching what you’re seeing through a movie theater screen. Where you’re happy because for the rest of the night, your problems can’t touch you, and you can’t touch them.
F: My favorite charecter from Victor Manchini from Choke by Chuck Palahnuik. He works as a man in a colonial times rennactment museum.
I'm very excited about this contest!
-
-
alright, here's the deal: your main character is a treasure hunter/pirate. space pirate that is. i want pirates! and spacecraft! and lasers and railguns and tractor beams or whatever. give me deep space sailing! buccaneers baby! walk the plank! argh!
-
-
Your last contest in this vein was so incredibly fun - I really want to join in, but I don't know if I have the time! I would hate to reserve a spot and not be able to finish. Classes started yesterday... *grumbles*
-
-
hey, reserve away. this is going to be another long running contest, and i was hoping you would enter. so by all means, go for it. if you don't get it done in time, not a problem.
-

Whoo Challenging Contest
(A) My favorite author: Anne Rice, Lynn Flewelling, and John Searles- I couldn't pick just one. XD
(B ) My preferred writing style: This would probably be mystery and dark moody pieces, since they make up the majority of my best works. I like 3rd person best. The best story I’ve ever written up to now would probably be a oneshot called The Dead Slave of Loyalty, which is (surprise) a mystery story that is dark and depressive.
(C) My favorite artist, album, or song- I’m not sure. I like the band Muse, if that helps any. XD
(E) The best one-three sentences I've ever written:
1) The breeze brushed against the frail autumn leaves, sweeping them through the chilly atmosphere. – “The Appeal of a Woman by your Side”- Prologue
2) All that I heard seemed to float over my head, along with the fog that occupied it. – “The Appeal of a Woman by your Side” – Preview of oncoming Chapter one
3) Her eyes were the color of the soft gentle tides on the ocean beaches; her skin the color of sweet milk and honey. – “Sunset Rose” my incomplete oneshot
(F) The name and occupation of your favorite character: In other people’s stories, it would have to be Alec, a new rogue thief in his area, in the book “Luck in the Shadows” by Lynn Flewelling. In my stories, it would have to be Charlotte, a detective in my story, “The Dead Slave of Loyalty”.
-
-
aright i want a fantasy story about a young man named Avern. he's one of the last members of a nomadic horseman tribe. so he's going to need a horse, i'll leave that up to you. just to make it clear, this is relatively conventional fantasy, which means meeting other races, crusading against some imperial overlord, that kind of thing. and there needs to be an elf. oh yeah, and this can be either first or third person. now have fun and push your limits!
-
-
Okay, here's the thing- I couldn't make medieval fantasy if it smacked me in the face and said, "write this". Future or modern fantasy I am good at, but I can only read the medieval stuff. XD Can you give me a non-medieval version of your prompt? Sorry I didn't ask sooner; I actually tried. It wasn't pretty. XDDD
-
-
whoa. i feel like a really really bad person for not noticing this request earlier. i'll blame it on midterms. so here comes another prompt: *consulting info* alright mystert moody pieces person, i'm giving you this prompt: whenever you're tired, preferably up as late as possible, write me a love story. but seriously, as late as possible. go for it. and as for the deadline, i'll extend it for you since it's my fault. but please let me know if you're going to write so i can adjust accordingly.
-
-
Sure, I can do that. Thanks.
This shall be interesting, seeing as I'm tired very easily...
-
-
-
-
-
Alrighty then, let's see what happens this time (when I still haven't finished Jazz's arc *laughs*).

(A) Whew. I hate questions about favorites. *sigh* Douglas Adams never ceases to make me happy. I'm also quite a fan of Neil Gaiman, Robert Jordan, Diana Gabaldon, and Michael Crichton (what? everyone needs one guilty favorite...
).
(B ) I've used both 1st and 3rd person, limited and omniscient. I've never used 2nd person because, let's face it, it only really works in Choose Your Own Adventures books. *laughs* I favor fantasy, but I know that you've noticed that I actually write in quite a range of genres. My most recent short story was sci fi, and the one before that was a contemporary twist. *shrugs* I like to try new things.
And I have no clue what the best story I've ever written is - I have trouble evaluating my own work. I kind of like Fire (which soooo needs a new name): In it, a man is tortured in his dreams and in a slightly off-kilter assylum during his waking hours. It's pretty obvious that he's not your average every day psycho, an observation that becomes set in stone when one of the nurses tries to seduce him. Eventually, everything coalesces into a supernatural-based ending that is surprising, despite the clues dropped along the way. Or at least I think it's surprising, but it's hard to tell, considering I knew how the story would end all along.
(C) At this very moment in time, my favorite song is "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab for Cutie. I am also currently obssessed with Frightened Rabbit and Dispatch. And, of course, all of the usual suspects.
(E) Blah, again with the favorites and evaluating my own work, both. *grumbles a bit* Well, I'm not sure if this is actually my all-time favorite, but I'm rather enamored with this segment, even though I wrote it 2 years ago: "The daffodils had shed the dark of winter earth, raising butter-yellow to smell the robin song. Their sunny lips opened to sing glorious O’s. Dew jeweled their leaves; hidden below ground, she could almost feel the bulbs beating like hearts, pulsing with a fearful kind of pregnant life."
(F) Hm. I like all of my characters! *sigh* Well, to be honest, Morrigan Ironink is an awful lot of fun to write - she's such a spunky little sprite.
She's a warrior woman, though unlicensed at the moment. She's also on a mission from--*bites her tongue* Oops, better not let spoilers out.
Ok, let's see what you've got for prompts and what I've got for time.
-
-
mwaha! i shall prevail! i WILL outhink you and find something you haven't written. and that will be... a witty twist on historic fiction! so there! first person, clever, witty, and sarcastic. pick an era no more recent than Columbus' discovery of america. so far as character, pick your own, whatever. have fun!
-
-
This is why I love these contests - I would never have chosen to write historic fiction on my own. *laughs* I think I'll use this prompt, even if I don't have the time to finish it for the contest. It's just too good to pass up!
So to clarify - historical and not mythological? I couldn't, for instance, write about Beowulf since he is probably just mythological, right? I want to get the rules straight.
-
Oh, by the way - what's the difference between this and what you've posted in my guestbook? *raises an eyebrow*
-
-
-
great prompts!
God you give such great prompts! Where do you come up with these?
I mean I love mine but I really want to write some of these other ones! Gotta bookmark the contest so I can come back for more great ideas later! -
-
yeah, i'm quite possibly one of the randomest people you will ever meet. so i decide what will be in opposition to what people are used to, and then i think of a totally random twist. last time around, someone had to write a story about a space flight from the point of view of a fly caught on board. and they actually pulled it off well. i think they placed, or were at least an HM...
-
-
Hi ... this is my first StoryWrite contest ever! whoo!
(A) Um, I don't have one. I like Edgar Allan Poe and Chuck Palahniuk, though.
(
75% of my stories are first person, the rest are third person. I like to write horror and action with some romantic plot elements. I try to add a bit of humor, too. It's always fantasy, usually involving death, murder, cannibalism, and things like that.
(C) I like All That Remains, Cradle of Filth, and Bad Religion.
(D) BLAH!
(E) Well, I don't consider myself very wise, but I like this quote of mine: "Beauty is an ability to hide one's flaws."
(F) I have no idea what his (or maybe its) name is, but his/its occupation is eating things and scaring people. It's the weird monster-thingy with the eyes on his hands from Pan's Labyrinth. He's just awesome!
I'm having problems thinking of a good plot right now, so I decided this competition would be great. It's a brilliant idea. Thank you!
-
-
ooh, cannbilism... dark at stuff. but here we go.
narrative (i.e. 3rd person) of a period of restoration with focus on relationship between characters
i want drama and psychological focus. tension and interaction.
hit me. -
-
Oh my ... I thought I was prepared for a challenge, but you totally caught me off guard. This will be hard. Wow.
You ARE good.
But I was wondering, what do you mean by restoration? -
Sorry if I'm annoying you, but one more question: Does genre matter? I mean, can it have some fantastical elements or does it have to be realistic fiction?
-
-
umm, let's keep it realistic. and the disregard the restoration part.
-
-
okay.
-
-
-
-
-
whew!
Just noticed you stretched the end date out a little longer... thanks!
I'm almost done with my rough draft but I didn't think I'd have it edited in time.
-
hey, just dropping in, letting you know i'm still alive...
-
my story-writing info.
A) Lynne Ewing and Robin Benway
I write mainly 3rd person, some 1st. Never 2nd. Always realistic fiction. Other than that, my style varies.
C)At the moment, My favorite album us Them Vs. You Vs. Me by Finger Eleven
E) Can i skip this?? I havent actually written something like that that is actually good.
F) The favorite character that i have made myself is this guy, Jeff. In the story, the people lived in groups in forests and they did everything for themselves. So his occupation I guess was finding food and supplies for his family/group thing. -
-
okay mr. or mrs. finger eleven fan person, here we go.
i want fantasy. dragons and elves and dwarves and all of that. i want swords and spells and axes and fighting. this will be third person, and your main character will be Alexandria. shes' a witch. not the ugly, hag type witch, but the attractive, young and smart type of witch. oh, and she's got an attitude. have fun!
-

Info for Prompt
A. My favorite author is probably Cornelia Funke, though I also enjoy Stephenie Meyer and Ray Bradbury
B. I prefer 1st person, and I enjoy all genres, though I especially like anything with vampires, teenagers, or fantasy. The best story I've ever written is probably The Leanonn Portals: Book 2, which is similar to Narnia but way different at the same time. It's about a fifteen year old named Jean who finds a portal to a world where her written word is more powerful than any other force. She falls in love, and has to choose between going back home or staying with the boy and defending Leanonn in a horrible war with the East.
C. ACDC, Back in Black
E. "I howl, my throat is on fire. My head is going to explode as the black cloud turns into a 2-ton slab of concrete that is right on top of my throat. I choke."
- From Thirst: Part 2
F. Melissa (no last name by writer's choice.) Vampire/High school student

alright. i want an action packed story based in the real world (meaning no vampires or werewolves or teenagers or... wait, teenagers are acceptable.). your main character is Jackson Blakely, a black ops agent with the british MI6. he kicks ass. he drives fast cars. he kicks ass. he avoids cliches. and of course, he kicks ass. here's the rundown:
he's on a run of the mill mission in japan, trying to break into some government building or the other. but at some event, he's going to meet a woman. named Midori. and they fall for each other. but here's the issue: she's also a spy for japan. so while they're falling in love, they're also trying to recruit and turn each other. oh, and there's a criminal organization trying to kill them both. i don't know why, that's your problem.
this will be first person from Jackson's point of view. have fun!

hope I`m not too late
(A) I have a lot of favorite writers: Franz Kafka, Doftoevski, Oscar Wilde, E.A.Poe, Stephen King(so yah, all the weird ones)
(
In the past I used to write vampire, fantsy, romance, mistery but now I write mostly nonfiction stuf.
I usualy write in the first person. I never wrote erotica (I mean never, not even home on paper).
My best story is called Dream Sellers.A story about love , ddiction, death and desilusions.
(C)My favorite band in H.I.M and the song Sleepwalking Past Hope.
(E)My best line from Dream Sellers: No, I don`t know what life is.Death, love, hope..... all the same to me.I know nothing….Not even what I needed to know.I condemn myself to a life of dispear and darkness. This I know I can do. I know my nule value. So you see.... there`s no place in my life for a guy like you.
(F)Alex Gray, drugaddict and unimployed.
One more thing I should add, I`m not a native english speaker, I have some grammer ishues and my vocabulry is ot that great. That`s why writing is ten times more dificult for me.Don`t give me something where I must use tons of description because there all my lacks will show.

alright lover of odd authors, strange music, and "real" vampires, here's a prompt for you. i want a love story. i want you to tap into your inner romanticism and tell us about how Jonathan is going to fall in love with Kendelynn. this doesn't have to be sappy. it doesn't have to be cheey. but it can't be tragic. no poetic deaths or symbolic seperation here. just a genuine love story that will make readers want to meet their Jonathan or Kendelynn. third or first person, whichever you think will suit the story better. have fun!
oh, and by the way, you're no where near too late. i will keep kicking the deadline back for awhile, so you've got some time. -
-
no tragedy, symbolic deaths or breakups? That sounds really boring......I mean it should be soooooo simple but when i think of it I get nothing.
I cando nothing spectacular with this one but if that`s what you want .....that`s what you`ll get.

Thanks for getting me thinking though. good luck.

My favorite author is probably Frederik Forsyth(he wrote Day of the Jackal) I like to write in either third or first person, I like to write action filed fiction of any kind. The best story I've written would be The Warrior, a poetic prose tale of a guy who gets mugged and how he recovers afterward. My favorite musician is jimi hendrix, my best sentences are: He watches with tears in his eyes as his father is murdered. His dad dances a twisted dance of death as he is whipped around like a rag doll under the impact of the bullets. My favorite characters tend to partially be the man with no name type, my favorite character occupation is private detective.
-
-
hmm, i saw the movie "day of the jackal." (the original from the 60's, as well as the one with bruce willis and jack black and sydney poiter) good stuff. alrighty then action person, your assignment follows:
alright, your character is a man named William Smith, and he's in love. tell me about it. no action, no violence, no guns. just love, and preferably some really good description and metaphor.
this is third person.
have fun!
(BTW, if you're an action fan, check these out:
the Bourne Trilogy by robert ludlum.
the brotherhood of the rose, by david morrell.
without remorse, by tom clancy.
and, of course, most importantly, read hot springs by stephen hunter. one of the best books of all time, followed closely by pale horse coming, then the rest of his books.) -
-
do you want it to be about him falling in love, or is he in love at the onset of the story?
-
-
-
Interesting!
A- J.D. Robb
B- 3rd Person, Romance, Best story so far--About a woman who leaves her abusive fiance'/ husband and finds real love with another man, discovering/re-discovering things about herself and about life in general, along the way.
C-A toss up on this, between..Carrie Underwood "Just A Dream" and Jordan Sparks "One Step At A Time"
E- Time Changes everything. You can adapt, or you can fall behind.
F- Luitenent Eve Dallas - - NYPSD - - Homicide Department -
-
alrighty then, let me see what i can do here... mwaha! i've got it! i want a medieval battle from the first person point of view. describe the emotions and feelings. tell me if he's a poor country boy shocked by the violence, or a psychopath who enjoys it. whatever, just wow me. have fun, and push yourself!

A. Poet: Sylvia Plath. Author: I couldn’t even begin to tell you. Let me know if you really want me to try.
B. I usually write young adult pieces from first person. The topics are a wide range… from anorexia to homosexuality. My favorite story I’ve written is the one I am currently working on, called Crooked Love. It is essentially the typical best friends translate into lovers romance, but with a twist- the best friends are 2 boys. It explores a high school boy’s approach to love, loyalty, conformity, courage, and commitment.
C. Paramore and Muse are my favorite bands.
E. My chest clenched up and my throat ached. I was fighting myself not to call after him, and coming very close to losing. But I clamped a hand over my mouth and screamed silently until I knew he was gone, and it was too late.
F. My favorite character that I’ve created? Logan, a high school student. My favorite character someone else has created? Blue, from Special Topics in Calamity Physics (by Marisha Pessl- fabulous book).
-
-
alright. no romance. no first person. no homosexuality. we're replacing those things with these:
a superhero.
third person.
noir stylization.
have fun! -
-
Noir stylization?
-
-
noir is a style of film and fiction. think of a classic black and white Private Eye flik. the characters are rough around the edges. the guys are tough, the broads (or dames) are sultry, and the air is clogged with cigarette smoke. look up "noir fiction" on wikipedia if you want, it explains. did you ever see "Sin City"? that would be noir. was that understandable?

excellent, thank you.

Prestige Here
Hey. You've got a really good idea here, and you've got me interested, so here goes:
A) I'm the type of person who reads way too much to pick a certain author from the many there are, so I don't have a favorite.
B.) I prefer to write in first person, because I can connect with my characters that way. I can also write in third, but second person is the one that works my nerves. After all, how can I tell you what you did? Fiction is my friend, and romantic fantasy is my forte. Now, similiar to my favorite author, the best story I've ever written is amongst many (in my eyes) and I'm unable to pinpoint one specific one.
C) Music is an art form, so my favorite song writer and therefore my favorite artist is India.Arie, who is a very soulful writer and a beautiful singer to boot.
D (err... E, excuse me) The first two are from stories I've written, and the last one is an original quote.
1.)"I haven't much time, dear heart," the voice continued, and, shockingly, the endearment uttered at the end of the statement sent reverberating tremors through her entire body, the words so lusciously spoken that she could taste them on her tongue, sweet and fresh."
2.)The child was cold, even with her frail arms wrapped around her legs and her knees pulled up to her chest. She shivered lightly, idly running a finger over one of her exposed knees, the roughness of the red, raw skin resembling the roughness of her life thus far. A sigh fell from her lips, and her stomach grumbled.
3.) Who cares what they think of you? They aren't going to be the ones judging you in the end.
F) Now, I'm not sure if this is supposed to be from a book or from our own writing, so I'll give both. Bookwise, my favorite character is Aria from the Inheritence Trilogy (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr) by Christopher Paolini. She's an elf with a strength unheard of in most books, both mentally and physically grounded. And, in what I've written, Sonya, who is an assassin and very much like Aria, is my favorite character.
G) Oh wait... That's all, isn't it? Oh.
Well anyway, there's the information you asked for. Prompt me please! -
Prompt
A- Raymond E. Feist
B- 1st person, fantasy, realistic fiction, poetry
C-Love Story, Taylor Swift
E-
1. I like walking, it's a good pastime. (I just like it)
2. That weird little voice in the back of your head...well that I'm sorry to say doesn't mean you're crazy it means you have a conscience.
3. Not a gloomy face but a beautiful heart.
F-Avery Heath, spy (I made him)
Jimmy the Hand, thief (Raymond E. Feist)
Hope this goes well... -
Yo
(A) Mercedes Lackey
(B ) Perspective generally switches between third person omniscient and first person. I write fantasy but in many varying settings. The best story I have ever written relates the younger years of a fictional Chinese emperor-to-be roughly during the Tang Dynasty. However the ancient world includes alchemy that is more than just words and incantations, and
(C) I honestly thought about my favorite song, artist, album for a long time, but at the same time as many pop into mind, by many I mean…hundreds. I can’t even give you a genre that I listen to more than others…suffice to say it’s pretty much everything.
(E) “I feel like the little kitty in Emperor's New Groove....Like an evil genius surrounded my idiots that always win in the face of my genius, and then when I finally feel like I've done something right, I fall over the edge.”
(F) I was not sure if you meant a character we’ve created or one that we’ve read/seen, so I’m gonna do both. “Eris ‘Sharkboy’ Mek. Master Engineer with RT Engineering.” From my friend’s story…And “Orphelia Grudgekeeper. Mercenary.”
This contest sounded too good to be true, and definitely too good to pass up though I see I'm joining up a little late. -
Well, with NaNoWriMo coming up in a week and two papers and three exams coming up, I decided I needed something else to do.
A. Mark Twain.
B. I do tend to go through a lot of styles. My preference lately has been sort of Bradbury or Neil Gaiman-esque: sort of real world imbued with magic, or at least oddity. In the past I've done alt-world fantasy, too. So, yeah, mainly fantasy, but I have a tendency to write realistic stories about weird high schoolers as well. I do largely 3rd person, I guess.
C. Flogging Molly for artist; Century Child by Nightwish for album; Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated by Rise Against for song (yes, I know you asked for one, but that was too hard a decision).
E. People lived, and died, and ate, and hunted, and fought, and ran, and cried, and sang, and feared, and overcame their fear. They planted crops, and reaped crops, built cities and saw them fall, built them again and let them fall again. They—we—fell in love, and there were moments of happiness, moments of pure bliss. And they were followed always by a soul-quenching darkness, loneliness, fear or sadness or anger or lust. (Maybe not my very best, but up there; and the best I could find on the particular computer I'm on.)
F. Tristram Shandy. I don't know his occupation, other than Gentleman. (From the book "The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman," by Laurence Sterne.) -
(A)Francisca Lia Block
(
Usually 1st person but I can do 3rd....I usually write young adult romance with some drama, unless I'm hit with some mad inspiration. The best story I've ever written on here, was probably "All Mimsy Were the Borogroves" which got some nice feedback and I really like it because it's different from what I usually write. It's basically a retelling of "Alice in Wonderland" about a young woman who follows a man to a strange place and....it's hard to describe. Sorry.
(C)MIKA...or anything that has ever been performed on a Broadway stage
(E)"Tears filled her eyes and threatened to spill over in a pitiful surrender to everything that was out to get her."
(F)One I didn't create: Holden Caulfield....very cliche, but he was really entertaining and I liked him; One I created: Wendy Sugar the cake decorator (the story was less cheesy than that character sounds...) -
prompt me
favorite author is definitely lewis carrol or perhaps douglas adams. and i LOVE nathaniel hawthorne and edgar allen poe!
i like 3rd person omniscient narrative and my fave genre is philosophy. I like to get all twisty and mind-freaky and make ppl think.
and my fave band...at the moment...is Envy on the Coast. I like Mayday Parade too. and i like foreign music like Vitas and Girugamesh and Verjnuarmu.
"The walls are cold. Complacent. She stares. . . "When will it end?"..."
Agustan Burroughs. Writer.

(A) I really love Kerouac and Bukowski, but I've read more contemporary stuff and really liked it too. It depends on my mood I think. I'd have to make a top ten list.
(B ) I usually write in the third person. My first person stuff is always juvenile sounding. I prefer if my stories relate to a psychological deviation. My best story is about a woman with Munchhausen Syndrome by Proxy and what becomes of her and her lover, her and her doctor, her and her idea of herself because of it.
(C) This is another top ten kind of thing. I really like the song "On the Radio" by Regina Spektor, but I appreciate Fall Out Boy's satirical treatment of the genre of music they supposedly belong to as well.
(E) He remembered thinking her collarbone and hips looked dangerous, like they could tear through her dress, were the right pressure applied. At the same time, though, she'd looked deceivingly weak. He was sure only a few straps could be cut on the blade of her bones before they snapped in half and tore her skin, too. There was a certain novelty to that thought, as if her movements had to be a magic all their own-- an unconventional grace she had to master to keep her body covered by what little stretched over it, and to keep herself from falling, breaking, and spilling the mystery that showed only in her unconventionally gray-scale eyes.
(F) It is supposed to be one of my own characters, right?
Persephone was a student, now she's a full time patient in a facility for the criminally insane.
-
A)It would have to be Michael Crichton.
B: My favorite point of view to write in would be first person. Genre would be a mix of action and sci-fi.
The best thing I've ever written is my ongoing series yet to be named, Book 1 as Revolution and Book 2 as Rebellion. Nate Andrews and his motley army of friends and family have to save the world. The world is being controlled and dominated by the LOU's, the law of unity countries, who want to make one uniform nation across the world. Problem is, they do it in the wrong way and completely tick Nate off, which isn't a good thing.
C)Hmm...that's a hard one. I like anything country, hip hop, or maybe even rap if I'm in that mood.
E)Best sentence:
"See you in hell," Ray told him, "Over."--Ray Andrews
Sorry, it was the best I could find. I don't have many memorable sentences; I'm not Shakespeare in the least.
F)Name: Nate Andrews (the best character I've ever made, I think) Occupation: World Savior
Thanks, and hope you answer soon so I can get started! -
I would enter but I don't think that I would get this done in one day.
-
dangg, i just realized this ends tomorrow. and that sucks big time. but maybe you can still give me a prompt and i can send you a story, to not be judged or a part of the contest or something? this is such a wonderful idea and i really want to try it.

(A) Jodi Picoult or Stephanie Meyer
(B ) First-person flows the most naturally to me, but I can just as easily write in third-person. Usually the things I write about are written in a fictitious style, but they are based on real events, and things that happen to me. I just add a little twist to them. I've never fully finished a story, but my best one that I've started was about a girl who spent her summer at her favorite camp as a junior counselor, and how she let her emotions take over. (In other words, it's how my summer really went, except it's how it could have gone if I hadn't stopped myself from making a horrible decision.)
(C) I LOVE the song "Not A Love Song" by Uh Huh Her. I also like "Fall For You" by Secondhand Serenade.
(E) "Nature always wears the color of the spirit."
"If only we could die like the sun, only to rise again and see the day."
(F) I love a lot of the characters I read about, but the two that stick out the most are Campbell from My Sister's Keeper (he's Anna's lawyer when she files for medical emancipation) and Edward from the Twilight saga (vampire, incredibly breathtaking and mesmerizing.)
