Only The Best!

Another contest. This time I want stories I haven't read before, that means no previous entries from my other contests, or stories I'm familiar with or have commented on. People aren't really that creative on SW...freakin' lazy when it comes to coming up with new stories, so I'll accept prewrites, but you'd better impress me. I haven't read a TRULY excellent story yet. Are there any of those on SW? I'm waiting for that special author to prove me wrong, to compel me, hold my attention, my interest. With that being said, anything goes, any genre...it doesn't matter to me--I just want a compelling, interesting, original read. Could be funny, dramatic, strange, suspenseful, perverse, provocative...the choices are vast. But please, let it have a middle, beginning and end. Not a scene or snippet!

RULES:

1. Min: 800 words, Max: 5,000
2. Well written yet easily understood.
3. Creative and original, which means no fanfic!

Simple. Now remember, I'm not easily impressed, so enter your best! Only one person can win, the story that most intrigues me!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 12
  • Rewards: Gold: 3000
  • Final notes:
Finally, I've come to a decision! Every finalist was impressive to me, but only a couple really stood out. The Bleeding Of Me and Eight Months. I loved each story for different reasons. The gold winner captured me the most, drawing out emotions and creating compelling characters. The runner-up, Eight Months was more of a psychological thriller and I loved that as well. It was also very well written and captivating, and so close to winning gold--seriously! However, The Bleeding Of Me was fresh to my eyes and the concept was so orignal and creative, I just had to reward this story with top honors!
Congratulations to the author of that story, finalists, and the remaining entries. I'm flattered you all considered my contest.

  • dang that sucks
    i didn't see the 800 word limit, i only saw the 5000 limit >.<

may i enter a different story that does fit the requirments?

  • So does that mean it has to be a full story and not the first chapter of one?

  • What is your favourite genre to read?

i added the first segment to my novel. I am not sure if that is classified as a snippet but I would love your thoughts as it is my pride and joy

    Hi Black-Bird!

I notice that you spend a lot of points on your contests. I've done that in the past, but I've found that points are not nearly as important as the contest requirements. The more restrictive the contest, the fewer the entries, and whether or not prewrites are permitted. Back when two entries were accepted to close a contest, I offered 1,400 points in a contest and got two entries. I was wanting a specific story written. The points had little effect. I was giving 350 points per contest until recently. Now I've gone down to 175 points for a contest. Only a hundred is required, of course.

Anyway, I hate to see you spending so many points.
