Story Contest #2 (Options)

Hello all.

This is the second story contest I'm holding since I've returned to the site after a long gap.

I am much more active on the AllPoetry side of things, mainly because it takes a lot for a story to catch (and then hold) my attention.

So that is exactly what I want you to do.

The points may go up depending on amount of worthy entries I get. The goal I'm aiming for (depending on entries) is:
Gold - 200
Silver - 100
Bronze - 50
+5 HMs

Here are some things I'd like to read about. Remember, mixing options is fine, and if you do this, and you do it WELL, you may have a better chance of winning.

Option #1:
Stories set in Japan, involving Japanese mythology, tradition, or culture.
-Do not just plonk some characters in Japan for the sake of them being in Japan. There has to be a reason for it, like with any setting.

Option #2:
A horror/suspense story. I want to cringe. Make me afraid to go to sleep tonight. Stun me. Awe me.
-I don't really care for gore; I much prefer the psychological aspect of horror or suspense.

Option #3:
Write a story from the point of view of a domestic cat.
-Humour or anything is fine here, but keep it somewhat realistic please.

Option #4:
Don't like any of the above? Comment or message me and I will give you a prompt of my choice! However if there's something in particular you have in mind, mention it and I'll come up with something along that line.

Rules:
1) Do not include a picture with your story.
2) Make sure your font is readable on the background you chose.
3) If your story is intended for an adult audience only, then label it as such.
4) Reserve if you want, but make sure you finish the story before the closing date.
5) Use a spell-checker, and read it over to pick out your grammar mistakes.
6) No fanfiction. I may allow it if you talk to me beforehand; depends on fandom.
7) Prewrites only if they fit the above options and if I have not read them before.
8) Put the option you chose in your Author's Notes.

Terms and Conditions:
~As this is my contest, I reserve the right to add and/or update rules as I see fit.
~I will possibly be adding points, and even extending the contest closing date.
~I will not disqualify without warning, but I WILL tell you if something in your poem goes against my rules, and give you ample opportunity to change it.
~Erotica and homosexual stories ARE allowed but please respect that not everybody on the site wants to read this, so label it accordingly.
~I will post a comment on every story that is entered, and may or may not include constructive criticism in my comment.
~If you have any questions or concerns about this contest or my rules, please post it as a comment on this page so others can see as well.

Suggestions and Brownie Points:
~Say a lot with few words. The more words in your story, the more chance of me losing attention or getting distracted. Unless you can REALLY draw me in.
~I like puns and wordplay.
~I also like imagery, especially imagery of nature.
~Try to make me FEEL your story. I want to sympathize with the main character even if he or she is despicable.
~If you must include swearing, try to make it tasteful.
~Religious and self-harm themes are not in my taste.
~Astound me with your words! You have a better chance of winning if you give me something unlike anything I've ever read before.

For now, that is all. Remember:
~Read the rules carefully.
~This is a community site, so please comment on other entries--it's very encouraging to the writer!
~Have fun!

P.S: If you're interested in poetry, I have a contest up on the AP side as well, so feel free to check it out!

I'd require you to write it in your AN but I'm sure you have a valid reason for doing so, and writing it as a comment on this page works just the same. lol Thanks for letting me know!

Yeah, I have a few reasons for not doing it in my Author Notes, one being that SW is very finicky about what it actually lets me edit on here. Half the edits I try it comes up with an error, so it's easier to do in here. And then with the number of contests I enter in it makes for very messy ANs after awhile. >.< Thanks for being understanding.

Rules are made to be broken.
I'm generally pretty reasonable about things like that~
Thanks for entering! I'll read yours when I'm not falling asleep on my keyboard XD

I try not to break too many though.

Hope the story is worth the slight bending of your rules. >.<

  • Prompt, please.

"We can't be dead. We were alive just a minute ago."

"There must have been another box, with all the good things in it, like sunshine and love and trees and all that. Who had the good fortune to open that one, and was there one bad thing down there in the bottom of the good box? Maybe it was Worry."

Both of the above quotes are from the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. If you are inspired by one or either of them, please include the quote and credit Sharon Creech in your author's notes.
