MANY MANY OPTIONS!

Okay. I've been waiting a while to hold this contest, so I expect lots of fantastic entries . There aren't a lot of points at the moment, but they'll be sure to go up! ^^

As promised, there is quite a bit to choose from. You may write a story or piece for each of them. I will allow poetry, but your chances of winning are slim unless it is absolutely amazing.

Brownie Points:
- commenting on one of my stories ^^
- history
- imagery!!
- a good vocabularly
- emotion. But don't just say "I felt very, very sad." Show it through actions and thoughts.

Rules:

1. I will correct your grammar. But if there are too many mistakes, I don't think you'll be winning......

2. NOTHING to do with Twilight, or any more of Stephanie Meyer's demon spawn.

3. No more than 2000 words. I'm lazy

4. YOU can't be lazy. Put effort into what you are writing. I'm the one who has to read it all...

5. Tell me which option you have used, and any other relevant information. Don't just enter something because it loosely fits.

4. Have fun! ^^

Here are the options!

OPTION 1.

Song prompts! Below is a list of songs. Even if you don't know them, take a look at one or two. Some of them are dark, but the majority of them are lighthearted and wonderful! Major brownie points for using lyrics from the song (as long as you credit the artist. By the way, each song is categorised by band.

Bloc Party
- Hunting for Witches
- Pioneers (something about a good friend)
- Vision of Heaven

Chopin
- Nocturne

Cold War Kids
- Hang me up to dry
- Hospital beds

Coldplay
- Lovers in Japan
- Viva la Vida (perhaps you could give me something historical ^^)
- Clocks
- The scientist
- Yellow (if you can work out what it's about - they can't seem to ^^)
- Speed of Sound
- The Hardest Part (what is the hardest thing you've ever had to do?)

The Cure
- Boys Don't Cry
- The Lovecats
- Let's Go to Bed (I'll LOVE you if you use the phrase "shaking like milk"
- Lullaby (give me a horror ^^)
- Friday I'm in Love (give me something really cute. But be careful. No cliches, or I'll be very upset =[)
- Wrong Number

Echo & the Bunnymen
- Lips like Sugar (Something to make me smile ^^)
- Nothing Ever Last Forever (something to make me cry.)

The Fratellis
- Chelsea Dagger

INXS
- Need You Tonight (something sexy =) but not full blown erotica.)

Kumiko Noma
- Lilium

The Little Ones
- Happy Hippo

Magnetic Fields
- All my little words
- I don't want to get over you (something that is satirical of love)

Moving Units
- Available

Mystery Jets
- Diamonds in the Dark
- Flakes
- Two Doors Down
- Hideaway
- Young Love

Oasis
- Champagne Supernova

Orchestral Maneouvres in the Dark

The Rakes
- Just Got Paid (heheheh)

Spoon
- I turn my camera on
- The Underdog

That's it! If there is any song not here, please feel free to message me

OPTION 2:

Hmmm... Perhaps a fan fic? ^^ Make sure you stay true to the character's personalities... Eg, they can't just all suddenly take their clothes off... T_T

- Rurouni Kenshin
- Elfen Lied
- Gungrave
- Wolf's Rain
- Vampire Knight

Message me for any others ^^

OPTION 3:

Mimick author styles!! Try to write an ORIGINAL story, using the style and genre the following authors would.

- Marian Keyes
- Kim Edwards
- Bryce Courtney
- Jodi Picoult
- Khaled Houssini
- Paulina Simons
- Conn Iggulden
- Sidney Sheldon
- Earnest Hemmingway
- Shakespeare (if you're up to it)
- John Steinbeck

Yet again, you may message me for moreee. ( please note, Stephanie Meyer is not on this list for a good reason. Begone, foul twilighters)

OPTION 4:

I'm losing options to put in here... So... how about you write a response to one of MY stories? This could be an alternative ending, a sequel, etc. Have fun with it ^^

OPTION 5:

Write about your goal in life. Make me end up feeling optimistic and happy. Tell me where you see yourself in 5 years time.

OPTION 6:

Write me a love story that will make me feel all gooey inside. These MUST be new stories. I'll be checking this. Here are some quotes (off the top of my head - they will be very corny... I'm sorry) :

"Nothing else matters now, I'm sure of it."
"...the second sun of my sunset."
"I just wanted to see him/her one last time"
"Suddenly everthing seemed dimmer in comparison to him/her."
"'Tomorrow' suddenly sounded like a promise rather than a threat."
"Hapiness bubbled inside of me; I felt so light, like jumping up and down for no reason at all."
"Before now, I must've been dead, for this is living."

NOTE: try not to use the word 'LOVE'. It's really overused. ^^

OPTION 7:

Write me something about your haven. Describe every last inch of it. Make me feel like I'm there, feeling secure and safe.

OPTION 8:

Got a long story... huh? Give me a summary of the plot. But... you are only allowed to use one-worded sentences. With this option, you should build up the tension, leaving the reading feeling breathless and tense by the end.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW! GET WRITING!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 2
  • Rewards: Gold: 350, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
Thanks for entering this contest! I was pleasantly surprised by some fantastic entries, and disappointed by others... but I won't get into that ^^

In the end I favoured stories that hadn't won many contests and followed the rules better.

I suggest all the entrants should take a look at the winning stories. Perhaps they could learn a thing or two. Aside from that, some of the stories are sadly under-read and under-commented (except for one of them, of course ^^).

    Thank you! =)

Ok, my entry (A Hamlet soliloquy -rewritten-) is under option #3. It is in all technicality a parody, but I did try very hard to keep Shakespeare's style. Hope it's OK, if you think it's pushing any rules (I don't) DQ away, I'll understand.

  • I love coldwar kids. LOL

  • Um, you can dq me if you want...just thought I'd go for it.

    • I heard a story of a twitard who asaulted someone outside a bookstore for her "bad" opinion of Twilight... Begone foul Twilighters.

        oh goodness. that's horrible. lol.
I admit I'm a 'semi fan' of the series but for my own reasons and I'm certainly not obsessed with it or a proclaimed 'twilighter' that's just crazy. ha.

Oh dear T_T No one is safe anymore....

  • I have a love story, but and it already has one of the quotes in it. I also have a song prompted song, from "Your Guardian Angel", and "What Hurts the Most"

If you are planning on entering something written from a song prompt, I'd prefer it to be something from the list ^^ The love story should be fine then, so long as it has the quote.

    oh, sorry,
I chose option 5, and I was hoping I could follow Douglas Adams.
May I? He's one of my favorite authors.

Ah, darn. If only you had put Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay in it, I would of had a story for you. But I do like the other two songs, they are good.
