End-of-Contest-Update:
Hey everyone! I have all the entries graded, but it's V-day and I need to spend a couple of hours with my hunny-bunny. So expect the contest to be judged either really late tonight, or early tomorrow.
Have a great Valentine's Day!
Howdy everyone!
Yume's back with another contest, and I just finished reading the book Wastelands; Stories of the Apocalypse (which I totally loved and totally recommend). So, in the spirit of such a wonderful book, I want to read your end of the world stories!
What I'm looking for;
Any story having to do with the end of society as we know it, so long as it takes place after that end. New and original variations of old time favorites (nuclear bombs, disease, etc) are encouraged, absolutely new ideas (like the second coming of Christ, or man-eating plants, both in Wastelands) get double brownie points.
Rules
1. Spelling and grammar make the world go round.
2. At the moment it's one submission per person- this might change if someone asks me nicely.
3. I don't mind adult things so long as they are labeled correctly.
4. Anything having remotely to do with the Twilight series will be automatically DQ.
5. Please put the word "Sunshine" in your author's comments so I know you read this. I will give one warning about it, and then DQ the story if it's not fixed by the contest's closing time. And don't give me grief about this rule; these are my points, so if you don't want to type out a whole eight letters, you don't need them.
6. This is a contest for short stories, not poetry!
7. Try to keep it below 5,000 words please. If you have something over 5,000 words that you think is just amazing, message me and I'll consider it.
8. If it's a chapter from a longer piece/novel, please only submit chapter one. I hate reading from the middle.
That's about it. Get writing and message me with any questions!
Yume
PS- the points may or may not go up, depending on if I have time to comment in between school work. I'll try to get some more though.
Oh, and I usually don't read them until the end just to be fair. So if you see someone who has a comment on their's, it's not me favoring them- it's me reminding them to read the rules! ^_^

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on February 15
- Rewards: Gold: 200, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: So, someone asked me a really important question in this contest; why the heck do you have to put "sunshine" in your author's notes? You have to read the contest to know what to submit, right?
Perfect question! This contest was a little experiment of mine. First variable was how many people actually read the rules and put "sunshine" in their author's notes without me reminding them to. The second was how many people actually submitted the right TYPE of story for this contest.
This contest wasn't about the end of the world; it was about the end of society as we know it, and how surviving humans (or used to be humans) adapted.
My results? Some people who put sunshine in their author's box actually wrote stories that had nothing to do with the contest. Others who didn't put sunshine in their author's box wrote the right stories.
Interesting, huh?
Either way, it was a fun contest to judge and I thank you all for entering. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and I hope to see you all around StoryWrite!

Thank you. I hope you do have time! Don't be afraid to submit a blank page before the contest's end and then ask for more time, if need be.

Can we put "sunshine" here instead of the Author's notes?
-
-
I'd say no, only because I can't see who wrote what until the end of the contest. Sorry! ^_^''

Does a story on the end of the universe count?
-
-
Lol, sure, so long as there's an "after" for me to read about!
-
-
Hehe. Nope. It's a quite literal 'end'.
