You Have Four Days To Impress Me

First of all, points will go up.

I just had a contest and before the high ends, I want to start another. (: However school starts Monday and everything goes to hell then, so we don't have much time. (:

A few expectations for what I want in an entry:

Full-bodied characters (I don't mean they need all their limbs, I mean they should be realistic and surprising, like a real person)

A natural flow (I don't want a story that's awkwardly parsed and hastily strung together)

An original, realistic plot (that doesn't ban fantasy, just be careful with it)

Striking imagery (it doesn't have to be beautiful or elaborate, I just want fitting descriptions)

RULES:

1. Things I'm not banning but don't particularly want: fantasy/sci-fi/vampire/gay-lesbian-bi/fan-fiction

2. Things I am banning: horror/demons/witchcraft/erotica/graphic descriptions of crime or abuse

3. Please get your stuff together with spelling and grammar, I don't want to have to come along and ask you to use capitalization or include commas or correctly spell a word. It's not that hard to proofread these days. Oh sweet technology! (:

4. No sticky caps, chat-speak

5. I'm not going to ban bashing, just be careful with it. For instance, it's okay if you have a Nazi character and he doesn't particularly like blacks or Jews, however it should be clear that it is the character's choice and not the author's.

6. If I am your friend/favorite, please put "friend" in your AN's. I can be scathing in my comments sometimes and I've ruined a couple friendships that way. If you don't want to put "friend" in your Author's Notes, you're possibly submitting yourself to the dark side of my tongue. (:

7. About comments, I promise to comment on every entry, but if it is too long or vapid I don't promise to finish it.

8. In regard to length, no word limit, but I love stories under a thousand words.

9. I'm not going to make you check all the contests you've entered your story in or look through all your comments, but if you've been blessed with a good memory and you recall me having read your entry in the past, please enter something else.

10. Also, though you can enter up to four entries, please do not enter four parts of one story. Either combine them all into one story, or enter separate pieces. I feel claustrophobic when I see four of the same stories in one contest.

11. Please put your story in a category (i.e., fiction, dark, romance, family, vampires, true story, etc). I like to know what I'm about to read.

Thanks for putting up with all the rules. (: Enter away!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 17
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 8 people
  • Final notes:
First off, this was a great contest, so many amazing entries. Some of you guys have amazing talent, but just need to use spell-checking. You know who you are. Because of my late judging (so sorry about that) you didn't really have a chance to revise them, so keep your eyes open for future contests of mine and enter your revised pieces then. Add a little note in the AN's reminding me that you revised your old contest entry. Thanks for all the great reads, guys! I wish I had more trophies to give the the honorable mentions. (: Mentions arranged roughly in order of best to still great. (:

    God bless!
