Update (3/30/07)- Hey guys!
Okay, so I thought I'd have them done today...
I've gone through and commented on everyone's paper-version of their stories. Now all I have to do is post those comments onto the net, and judge. Well, my plane leaves in two hours and I still gotta pack...
So as soon as I get to a computer, I will start punching these in! Sorry it's taking so long- chaotic week. ^_^
We all have our own little character who is dear to us, whether it be a glorified version of ourselves or simply the character of our stories. Each character is like a child to us- we constantly watch it grow and learn, cry with it when its heart is broken, laugh with it when it leaps for joy. With each sentence we fall more in love with our characters, and they become more apart of us with each word.
So what I'd like you to do is write a story about one of your original characters. It could be a descriptive essay, or just a story with them in it. It can be your favorite character, or maybe an old friend from the past you haven't seen in a while, or even a little side character you want to expand on.
But all and all, I want to feel the love for that character, even if they're a bad guy!
So, some "guidelines";
1. Cursing is okay, but keep it to a minimum.
2. Erotica is definitely okay, but put a warning up!
3. Have fun fun fun!
4. Be respectful of others in the contest.
4. In your comment box, please put "To my darling...(character name)" so I know which character you're writing about.
Sound good so far? I'll be running through the site all week and gathering up points, so there should be some nice prizes for the end of the contest. Also, I won't read the stories until the very end, but I promise nice long critiques and comments then!
Now go have fun writing!
PS- A couple of things I forgot to add!
You can certainly have multiple entries, but please have each entry be about a different character. After all, you're supposed to be somehow showing a character to me, and I don't want to read about the same one twice! (Well, at least not during the contest. ^.~)
Also, I do score Prewrites and Fresh-writes differently. Here on Storywrite I generally add two points (I score out of ten) to the scores of fresh-writes just because it's a bit more effort. However, you aren't punished for prewrites- meaning you can definitely win with a prewrite, you just get more brownie points with a fresh one.
Another PS- Woot for more points! Thanks to a recent contest win, I have a lot more points to add to this contest. That, plus what I get by commenting on everyone's, should lead to a cozy little chunk of prize money for the winners. Want to do some last minute editting? ^_~

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on April 2, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: So, I'm finally done!
Firstly, sorry if my critiques seem a little harsh and have more negatives than positives. Trust me when I say that I enjoyed reading every piece, it's just my nature to be like that. Also trust me in saying that if I critisized something it's only because I really believe it could be improved, and that you'll be happier with the results when it is.
But, because this was a contest, I did have to do more than just critique. I picked my winners because I had the most fun reading what they wrote, loved their original little writing quirks, and was starting to love their characters too. After all, this was about characters as well as writing.
So, congrads to the winners. Sorry if my critiques seemed harsh. Send me more things if you don't mind me tearing them apart. And...hope you had as much fun as me!

I never told anyone this, but I was born with a tail. It was green, scaly, and definitely not diaper friendly. No one understood where it had come from, I mean, the rest of me was perfectly normal (some people might say that's debatable), I just had a mon• Commented on by judge. Prewrite

Ooh, I like. Let's see what I can do.

Can't wait to see what you come up with! ^_^

Is there a limit on the number of entries per person?
-
-
Oh, I should have addressed that! Thanks for pointing that out to me. ^_^
I'd say not at all, just as long as each entry is about a different character. Other than, write your heart out!

I have a question. I had two, but I see the other has been answered.

Anyway, is there length limits? Because my *short* stories can get quite lengthy sometimes.
And I hope it's okay that I just kind of picked up this piece when the last with this character left off (kind of, it's more in the future), so some things will probably be rather unclear. I'm trying not to put too many spoilers in it though.
Thanks.

Another good point I should have addressed! See, I get so excited about hosting new contests...
There are no length limits. ^_^ As I see it, having a lengthy piece can be either a good thing or a bad thing depending on the writer- either it's a chance to be more creative and descriptive, or could drag on and show more of the writer's mistakes. So, since it really is a good test of a writer's skill, the lengthier the better.
I would just say that if it takes you longer than 45 minutes to read it through, then perhaps it's too long for a contest. But you can still send those ones to me for critique! (I just love reading new things!).
Hope that answers your question. Good luck!

Ahhh!
Thank you!!! I really appreciate this. Thank you so much for your critiques, your time, and the points
"Bones" Spencer and John Cipher/Smileyface are both very dear to me as characters, and I'm happy to see them get noticed. Most of the things that were critiqued were character choices. But in any event, thanks again!
