Looking for a name! Come on and rock my world!

Sorry couldn't resist.

Anyway, I am trying to name a fantasy world I am writing about. The problem is, I can't seem to think of anything that hits the right cord.

Hey, everyone's brilliance has it's limits!

Anyway, I really want to focus on this story so it gets told, but the fact that it's not named is a stumbling block for me, that's where you in your amazing naming genus come in and help bail me out!

A bit about things:

It's a fantasy world, but set in modern times. I have thought about a somewhat midevil setting and could go either way as I am still experimenting with the world itself.

The world is run by the hearts of the chosen few (think less then five) the things that they feel and are are what shape the people in it. Even if they are indifferent, it is what is in their hearts and souls that make the land what it is. (Hence my indecisiveness on the era exactly.)

Yeah, I am messing with super powers.

I know my thoughts seem a bit scattered about this, but I am very serious about getting this written and published. The story won't go away so here I am, telling it.

The rules:

1. You can enter as many times as you want. I'd prefer all your ideas on one page, but if you come up with some more later, I won't be too upset if you enter again.

2. No existing fictional realms, places, lands, zones, countries, continent, world, or landmass names. Azeroth is a great name, but it's already taken. (And yes, I will probably check the finalists if I am unsure.)

3. NO ripping off fellow Storywriter's places. I have read some amazing stuff on here, and no one wants to get ripped off, if I get complaints I'll DQ you.

4. Winner of the contest will have the dubious honor of being the one who named my world. Runners up and honorable mentions may become points of interest, towns, or other geographical places.

Bonus points if it starts with A. In my mind I have been calling it AU (Alternate Universe). Yeah, I know really original right?

Any questions comments or uncertainties? Hit me up! More then happy to answer and clarify any point I have messed up in my awkward way of explaining things.

DISCLAIMER: By entering my contest you are giving me all rights to the name that you have entered. The chosen name will become my property for my book, the rest may become points of interest or mentioned in other ways as I see fit. I will be sure to give you thanks for your awesome better then my own naming skills.

Thanks!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 25, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
I just want to say thank you to everyone who entered. This contest was amazingly difficult to judge, and I was honestly inspired by all of the names that were given to me. They made me think about the nature of the land and what it was I was trying to convey.

Gold actually named the land, while silver and bronze will have a few names picked from them that either inspired me or I will outright use in my story. Honorable mentions had to go to 'Place names' because I simply loved the name 'Avelaya' and to the very helpful article on how to work past name block.

I truly wish I could give substantive points to you all, but I just chose what worked best for the idea framework that I have set up.

I will comment on each story within the next day or two to let you guys know specifically what names I will be using.

You ALL really inspired me. Thank you.
