It's Only A Fairytale If There's Lot's Of Blood...

It's Only A Fairytale If There's Lots Of Blood.

Forget Disney.  Forget Perrault.  Forget everything you ever thought you knew about 'cutesy' fairytales with happy-ever-afters and guileless fairies

Fairytales were originally oral traditions, passed from grandmother to grandchild over countless centuries.  They were not meant to fill the heads of little girls with dreams of Prince Charming and congenial Fairy Godmothers.

Fairytales were meant as warnings to children in those dark, dangerous times, when nature and lawlessness destroyed lives and families daily.

Do you think you have the imagination to conjure up a real fairytale?
Do you know what evils lurk beneath the fluffy fantasy?

  • I want gritty fairytales.
  • It can be modern or or a period piece, but I want to see the truth.
  • get rid of the prissy, pretty images.
  • Make your characters bleed.

Rules:

  1. Please at least run a spellcheck.  It's no fun reading something with a million and one mistakes in it.
  2. Make sure this isn't your average 'boy-loves-girl-they get married' scenario, please.
  3. I'm allowing pre-writes.
  4. It's up to you whether you want to re-write a familiar fairytale, or create your own.
  5. There does not need to be fairies and brownies, but if you want them, feel free.
  6. All genres welcome
  7. Have fun, kids!

This isn't a rule, but it's courtesy: please comment on another story in the contest.  It's just the nice thing to do.

Thanks, guys.

I almost did this with the last fairytale I wrote, but I just couldn't bring myself not to have a happy ending

I hope a twisted version of a traditional tale counts. If not, tell me and I'll switch it for a new write. ^^

Ha, so can we kill off the prince? I always hated that character, he ruins everything! Princes, I don't like them unless they're cool and not sissy boys. I always wanted to kill off the prince!
