Okay, guys, a contest from RJ after quite a long hiatus. Two points made me form this contest - (a) I've got an unholy amount of points, so I'll just pay some of them forward .. (
I want something new to read!
So - options.
[1] Something dark and supernatural. Preferably involving demons, ghosts, some gore, etc etc (No freaking cliched vampires and werewolves!)-- try and make it urban fantasy - that is, set in modern times.
There's something cool about ancient forces having it out on the streets of NY, you know? Brownie points for that.
[2] A story about spies and the like. Think Robert Ludlum (Bourne trilogy) and Matthew Reilly. Give me a rollicking ride.
[3] A short story with a twisted ending. Make it seem like something good's going to happen, but then turn the tables in a blink of an eye.
[4] Science fiction. Just a note - give me some space battles, brownie points! Also, brownie points for great planet description, names, and technology.
[5] A short fight scene between two characters - swords or fists, I don't mind.
Make it interesting and edge of your seat stuff.
[6] Talking about edge of your seat, write me a murder mystery. It can be short, serious, or a slapstick venture.
[7] Something utterly hilarious, please. Make me laugh.
And that's about it.
And, try and enter stuff that I haven't read yet ... I wouldn't hold it against you if you did, but I like to see some new material now and then.
Well then, get cracking, boyos!

*scratches her head*
Is there actually anything of mine you haven't read? -
-
There must be a few ..
-
-
I shall work on #6.
-
-
Looking forward to it.
-
-
Oh, shoot! I wish this were still open. My story is now hanging in the balance.....
-
-
-
Dammit, you read everything of mine. >.<
-
-
No matter, enter one of your early writes ... I'm pretty sure I haven't read ALL of them.
It doesn't HAVE to be something I haven't read.
-
-
I just checked, found one you haven't read, but only one (aside from my novel). You've commented on everything I have. >.<
-
-
Really? Just ONE? Wow ... I knew I liked your work, but ... I've read all of your stories?
Amazing.
*To the world in general*
RJ has read all Dan's stories! You should too!
-
-
Well, short stories. Didn't check if you'd done the novels. Haha.
And then there's the one in your comp.
-
-
Hahha ..
-- Same. I should really give your former NaNo novel (The Atlantic one) a shifty sometime later.
Thanks for entering!

Are you allowed to enter a story that has already been entered into another contest?
-
-
Sure thing.
Good luck in advance!
-
-
I has entered an urban fantasy ^^ I love that genre too. Scott Westerfled's Peeps is a good one, and the two I've mentioned earlier. Then theres a huge network of writers who write about like...fairies and such in modern times, but I don't really like those cause they get confusing too easy.
-
-
Whahey! Looking forward to reading ...
-
-
i entered two stories. one is called "the campus" it would fit the espionage, ludlum thing, although it's a bit more humourous than either ludlum or reilly (both of which i LOVE) and the other is called "smoke in the dark" it would fit #1. speaking of which, ever read Jim butcher?
-
-
Nope.
He good?
-
-
so far as the whole "demons and such in the streets" thing, he's awesome, plus hilariously funny at times. the characters are great as well. his main series is called "the dresden files" and it's about a guy who's a wizard and a PI in chicago. believe me, as someone who doesn't usually read fantasy, it's way better than it sounds.
-
-
Ah .. I have heard of the Dresden Files - I need to read it now!
-
-
but if you are going to try them, i suggest starting towards the middle of the series. it's better that way (my own crazy opinion)
-
-
Well, I'll see.
Cheers for the tip.
-

-
-
As far as I know, you haven't read the story I entered. But I don't actually know how much my work you've read, so I can only guess based on what you haven't commented on. Sorry if I guessed wrong.
