Contest Exceptional Stories To Be Published by Andy Stephenson

A group of us have gathered together with the intention of trying to publish a collection of stories from Storywrite. If you feel that you have a story of exceptional merit, please consider entering this contest.

This publication will be sold at cost, so there will be no royalties. You will retain all rights to your stories, however; some publishers may consider this publication the exercising of first serial rights. If you have questions, please message me.

The purpose of this publication is to give you a tangible product of your work which will also be made available to you, the general public, and members of Storyright at cost. The book will probably consist of about 500 pages in a paperback format.

Rules:

Stories must be 4,000 words or less.

G or GP rated. Adult topics are fine, but the stories must not be restricted to adults only.

Carefully proofed.

High quality.

Entering and placing in this contest does not guarantee being published in the book.

Stories which do not meet the expectations of quality in content and grammar may be removed from the contest.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 16
  • Rewards: Gold: 200, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 20 people
  • Final notes:
I enjoyed reading your stories. In my opinion the first six all deserved gold trophies, but I can only award one in this contest. After that, the honorable mentions are in no particular order except that I rated them 9 or above on a scale of 8.0 to 10. We will be holding more contests.

Some stories, though quite good, did not seem right for the book we are trying to publish.

    The winners in order are:

    Dark Legacy by tallblondie
Riding on the Backs of Seahorses by tonialoise
    Anabelle by jessica treacy
Other side of the Wall by Kirin
    Cimiar's Last Challenge by Gezza
Barking Dog(Final Thoughts Of A Suicide Bomber) by slashinguk

Thanks to all of you who participated.

    Andy

A suggestion on which of my short stories to enter would be nice. I can't decide. Heh.

      Hmm.

I really can't help you pick a story. I've only read one and it was geared toward a contest. It was good, but I don't think it would fit in the book because it is specifically designed for that contest.

      Maybe.

First we have to get this book off the ground. We then may try another.

Hmmm. If I edited some of the more extreme gore out of something like How to Make a Monster, Ambush, Why, or Doubt, d'you think it'd be up to the quality level you're looking for? I'm interested but something tells me my normal work is too adults-only.

      I don't know.

I'm not familiar with those stories. I've entered a some of your contests, but I don't know if I've read you or not.

I seem to recall seeing comments by you on a few of my stories, and I know I've entered at least one or two of your contests. Tell you what, I'll enter what I consider my best work, and you can decide whether the actual writing is the quality level you're looking for. After that, if you decide you want something of mine in the book, I'll edit or fresh-write something kid-rated for you. Does that work?

          That's fine.

I don't think I've read 'Doubt'. That will make it more interesting.

I actually just finished a short that would work pretty well for the book. The gore level is no higher than Brothers Grimm, really, and it's a fairy tale... sort of. XD It's so short I decided not to enter it here but if you're bored and want something to do I suspect you might enjoy it based on your user image. XD The title is "Too Late", it's my most recent.

    Great idea, Andy.
*places a bet that Blondie's story'll get picked*

    Well duh!

Good luck with this endeavour ... I'm going to throw in my own literary musings and see what happens ..
