Childhood Obsession

Every kid had an obsession. Whether it was Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Winnie the Pooh, Powerpuff Girls... everyone had their own thing.

I want you to tell me about yours. I want you to tell me how you watched the show obsessively or how you played with the trading cards or how you'd act out the movies as your favorite character. Tell me things you and your friends did in elementary school or middle school. Reminisce. You'll be surprised at how much you remember about your obsession.

I got the idea for this contest because as a child [and through part of middle school] I was OBSESSED with Sailor Moon [great show. Still entertaining.]. Yesterday, I found the old movies I had, like The Promise of the Rose and Hearts in Ice. I watched the former, and it was like taking a step back in the past. I remembered how my best friend Destiny and I used to play Sailor Moon every day, watch the show religiously, act out the movies during sleepovers, pick our favorite character... we'd make little books and try to draw the characters [failing horribly of course] and pretend we were the characters at school during recess.

So tell me about this. And no, I'm not going to be like "you can't take my example!"

This can be written in story form, as if you were your young self, etc, or it can be written in bunches of random sentences, it's your choice. I have very loose guidelines on this contest.

All I ask is that it's 700 words or less; I have lots of school and homework and college stuff to do so I don't have a lot of time.

This contest WILL be judged on time, I promise! And I may extend it to after Halloween [since Halloween tends to bring out the kid in all of us].

Prewrites aren't allowed unless someone mentions that they have a story already that's perfect for the contest.

Remember, this is YOU. You aren't making this up. I mean, of course, if you write in story form you won't be able to remember everything you said or did, so that can be more creative, but make it you.

Have fun!

P.S. I'll comment every entry!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 10, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 100, Silver: 75, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 10 people
  • Final notes:
Hey all, and thank you for the wonderful entries! I didn't advertise it, but every entry that didn't get gold, silver or bronze recieved Honorable Mention, because you all did such a great job, yet there were so few of you.

The winners I picked by how excited they sounded as I read the story. For instance, when I was reading the Gold winner's entry, Moon Prism Power-- Make up! I really wanted to just be there, to have that kind of fun too, and go back to my kid days so I could play games at recess. Now we don't even have recess! [aw, sad]. You all did a wonderful job, and thank you so much for entering!

I would enter this....but I was practically obsessed with everything when I was a little kid. There was Pokemon, Yugi Oh, Sailor Moon, Hamtaro, Superhero League, cats, yo-yos, chocolate (still is), anything pertaining to the Oregon Trail, and so on.
