A big welcome to all of you who joined the site in March. This contest if for you if you join StoryWrite between Feb. 28 and March 31, 2007
This month we have a list of 10 topics and 6 writing style options.
Topics to pick from
1. About a Leprechaun
2. A Traditional Irish dinner
3. Springbreak
4. Spring Equinox (beginning of Spring)
5. March Madness
6. Mad as a March hare.
7. Rebirth and renewal
8. St. Patrick's Day or St Patrick
9. March winds and weather.
10.March in the Southern Hemisphere.
Options
1. Both sides of the story. A story written twice in the perspective of 2 different characters of the same story. This option can be made even more effective if you can do it with a smooth transition betweem the perspective changes.
2. Humor in the chaos. A story with a funny twist. Can be from personal experience or pure fiction.
3. From the eye of nature. A story that gives us a view of what nature sees and experiences rather than what we see and experience. Examples would be the earth, the wind, a tree, your dog or your houseplants. As long as it is a perspective that is not human.
4. A first person narrative. This can still contain dialogue and other characters, it just needs to be written in the "I".
5. From the eyes of a child. Forget what you know at your age and view March and the given topics from a child's perspective. You decide what a child is based on your own age ![]()
6. A romance. No March is complete without those tell tale stories of love and romance. The romance can be between people, two elements of nature, Leprechaun's, etc or simply a romantic interlude that happens as a result of one of the topics given. Don't forget to keep it G rated ![]()
So pick you topic or multiples of topics and write from one of the options. In some instances you may find yourself combining options and topics. That is ok. This month the topics and options are in place to tickle your muse and rev up your imagination so have fun with it.
You can approach your topic and options anyway you wish as long as it is G rated. We want all entries to be viewable by all entrants regardless of age.
The Rules
1. Must have joined the site February 28, 2007 through March 31, 2007. You may enter if you joined on February 28th only if you did NOT enter February's New Member Contest.
2. Prose only.
3. If you collaborate with another member, both members must qualify as new members--see rule 1.
4. No adult or erotic category writes. Must be viewable by all age groups. Keep this one G-rated.
5. Prewrites are allowed provided they meet the contest criteria and are on topic.
6. If you are not sure that the judges will "get" your stories connection to the topic or option you chose, give a brief explanation in your authors notes.
7. Only 1 entry per person.
8. Must enter by March 31, 2007.
The Suggestions
1. Check your story multiple times for typos and check back several times before the contest closes to see if you think you should do edits as a result of some of the feedback that you get. You will have a better chance of being considered for a trophy if your piece is well polished by the time it is judged.
2. Since this is an interactive site, take the opportunity to read and comment on some of your fellow contestants. It is a great way to start getting to know other writers and initiate contacts that will most likely return the favor and read and comment on your works. This will not affect the judging of the contest, but it will help you become accustomed to interacting with other writers on the site.
3. Keep your readers eyes in mind when choosing your font and background colors. A story that is easy to view is more likely to be well received by readers. If you are in doubt about whether or not your type shows well against your background, then opt for white background with black type. You can always change it after the contest if you want to experiment with colors ![]()
Happy writing and best of luck to you all.

this seems difficult
-
-
It's not difficult at all. Just pick a topic and write. You'll do just fine. There is plenty to pick from and I'm sure you'll write something wonderful.

mine is..
..about march madness, i guess. -
Challenging
This will be challenging but i would love to enter -
Spring Break Subject
If I choose my topic to be about Springbreak, is the mention of alcohol forbidden? It is a G rated story, but my characters are 21.
Also, how long should the story be by word count? -
-
I think mentioning alcohol would be ok as long as it isn't the entire focus of the story and it doesn't encourage underage drinking.
There isn't a word limit so you can use your own discretion for word count
-
-
would it be to weird if my story wasn't finished? I got off writing and realized how long it is. Could it be like "to be continued"?
-
-
A "to be continued" story would be good. It can even be a "chapter" of a longer piece.
-
-
HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY EVERYONE!!!
-
Winners?
So did anyone win or is it still being judged? -
-
