I have a lot of ideas for contests, but if I were to make a contest for each idea, I would have a nifty amount of contests running! So now I’m making the hackneyed “Options!” contest.
There are only 30 spots available so get writing loves!
First things first, though…the rules:
à I promise that I’ll have this contest judged by April 3rd at the most.
à I want all entries to be between 250 to 3000 words. I will be lenient up to 50 words. (This does not apply to poems!)
à If I see a title with lower case words that should be capitalized, I will not be happy.
à Correct grammar and spelling. Most of you guys have this engraved into your heads by now.
à I want it to be REALISTIC! I don’t want unicorns popping out of the magical fairy castles doomed to be overtaken by the damn vampires.
à That’s right. You can use profanity as long as it doesn’t go like this: 2%#$ #$^^ @#$^%@#$^ #$^#!!!! In other words, don’t overuse it!
à Be respectful to religion, beliefs, etc. No bashing allowed!
à If you tYpE LiikE this, someone will be murdered.
à I only want stories or poems or letter forms or diary entries. No plays, no scripts, etc.
à No sci-fi. No naturo. No fairytales. No fantasies. Sorry people.
à In your authors notes, include your age, gender, and favorite quote. If you don’t have a favorite quote, well, say N/A. I just want to make sure you are reading this.
Phew. Now that the rules are over with, here are the lovely options:

I want them to be TRUE, emotional, deep, and just make me want to cry my eyes out.
5) Mix and Match:
Choose 2 to put in your story—feel free to change the pronouns to fit to your needs.
>>I’ve never seen him/her smile unless you are on the bus with him/her.

7) Emotions:
A. Make me want to punch a character and just yell, “BITCH!”
B. Make me want to cry my eyes.
C. Make me go, “Aww, I wish that would happen to me.”

Again, only 30 spots allowed!
So, let’s review because there was certainly a lot to digest there:
1) Read and follow the rules!
2) Write your story corresponding to (an) option(s)
3) State what I asked you for (4 things) in the author’s notes!
4) BE CREATIVE!
Good luck my fellow SW writers.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on March 30, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 189, Silver: 127, Bronze: 88, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: You know, many people know that I am a complete and utter grammar, OCD FREAK.
Many of the entries I received had too many grammar errors (as well as lack of emotions and/or descriptions). Now, don’t get me wrong. All the entries were simply amazing (well, most), but the finalists stood out in one way or another.
I gave people a chance to edit, and I also gave those who didn’t make it to the finalist list a chance to prove their story/poem worthy of being placed on there. No one seemed to care.
With all that aside, I would like to introduce the winners =)
Gold: She Wore Fur At My Funeral
Silver: Letting Go of Perfection
Bronze: The Rain
HM1: Lost
HM2: Too Many Years Alone
HM3: A Numb Heart’s Blood
All of you guys were great, and let me tell you now that as I have done with other contests, I have placed you guys according to how well you guys wrote (aka graded you guys). All the numbers were very close (.5 point differences, actually). So give yourself a pat on the back =)
Congrats to all the winners and thanks to all entrants =)
I have a pretty awesome contest coming up so check it out once I make it!
