Hello there,
I have always enjoyed good stories involving time travel, to the past or future. I don't mean stories that are just set in the past or set in the future. I am looking for stories where one or more characters go to, or somehow manipulate things in, another time. They can stay there, or come back, whatever.
One example a story outside the normal science fiction box is Octavia Butler's "Kindred," where the time travel device was used to explore the issue of slavery (ok, so I haven't actually read it yet, but it is on my list).
The picture is just for fun, the story does NOT have to use a time machine.
Here are some ideas:
1. A visit to a specific person that you consider important, such as an ancestor, a famous historical figure, even your younger self. This can be a simple personal outreach, or you may wish to set events in motion that create a temporal paradox, save or destroy civilization, or make yourself emperor.
2. A love story, where the lovers are at some point separated by time
3. A mission through time to accomplish a specific objective
4. An accidental trip through time through some natural phenomenon
5. A crime or other tragedy in history explained... by time travel
6. Any other time travel scenario your mind creates!
I do love a good paradox that will give me a headache, if it is done well
.
Rules:
1. Prewrites ok, if they truly fit
2. Fresh writes get bonus points
3. Under 5000 words please
4. Run spell check, best efforts on grammar appreciated

The winning three entries I thought had good plot, emotional feeling, interesting character details, and great use of the time travel device. I added HMs for some of the fresh writes that showed great creativity, and a couple prewritten entries that showed highly unusual qualities such as great research (*thumbs up* Jimmy) and spectacular humor (Iguanas - awesome). Thanks again, everybody!
