Haunted House

Alright, I know this scenario has been done time and time again but hear me out;

Houses tend to be the most intimate of places. They share love, passion, hate, sadness, fear, and sometimes death. The walls of the house has seen so many things beyond our own imagination. Murders go on behind closed doors and, sometimes, aren't discovered for weeks. Rape happens in the depths of the night and goes unnoticed. Tortured screams emanate from the basement from a victim that has no hope of living. All these things happen inside the safe cozy walls of houses. It could be any house. The one across the street, across the globe, or even next door.

What happens to all these things that the house witnesses. Do they just fade away and disappear, or does the house hang on to such negativity. As if the evil was stuck. Oozing into the cracks in the floor boards, pooling into dark murky puddles in the basement, and seeping into the very structure of the house until it can't take it anymore. Finally, after possibly years of being held captive there, the evil is released into the house. The house its self becomes corrupt. The once quaint, cozy, little home is now a corrupted and sinister death trap.

The question is;

Will you survive it?

I want you to write a horror thriller that shows the fight for survival of a person, or people, that fall victim to this house. Who lives? Who dies? I want this to come from the deepest recesses of the human mind. The place where light is scared to enter and the darkness thrives.

This idea came from reading the book Rose Red and the Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life At Rose Red. Not to mention the movie The Shining and various other haunted house movies.

Rules

  • The place doesn't have to be a house but people have to be able to live in it. It can be a hotel, mansion, apartment, anything.
  • There is no maximum but the minimum is 500 words.
  • Excellent SPAG. I want to be able to read it.
  • No 'txt tlk'
  • Please submit in English.
  • I want really good imagery. I literally want to see what is going on.
  • Build a character that people can relate to. Give us some physical features of this character. The way the character moves, talks, or simply how intelligent the character is.
  • Try for an original approach to the prompt. I'm really looking for something that is new and keeps me interested the entire time.
