Contest Build-a-novel: The Storywrite Tales Project (audition) by ShadesOfGrayEdit
Prompt
I love writing stories. I've tried from time to time to write longer works, but they always kind of peter out, because I just can't do it on my own. I work best with other people.
So, I had this idea. I'm going to host a "rounds" contest for the story-writers out there. Each round the entrants will write a piece of the novel, based around their character(s); then I'll add my own contributions, edit everything, and stitch the whole thing together into a coherent story. No one will be eliminated; we'll all be in it from start to finish (hopefully).
But first I have to recruit some brave souls to write a novel with me
So for this audition round, submit a writing sample (new or prewrite) of 300 words or less so I can get a sense of your writing style.
I'll close the contest when I have 8-10 quality entries who will make it through into the main project.
Some caveats:
1. I _will_ be editing your work for the finished product; I have to, to weave together the strands written by several different writers and make it all seamless. So if you don't like the idea of someone else changing your words, then don't enter. Don't worry, I'm a good editor; if you do enter, I think you'll like what we come up with.
2. This will take a while. A novel is usually around 80,000-100,000 words; each round, each entrants will be writing around 1000-1500 words, so we'll have at least 8-10 rounds (more if we want to achieve specific goals). If you aren't willing to be in this for the long haul, don't enter.
3. There's no way we can keep every storyline separate, and we don't want to. So other people will be writing for your characters, and there will definitely be rounds where you will be collaborating with other entrants. If you're not willing to participate in those things, don't enter. But I hope you do.
Oh, right. Before I forget... I know I wouldn't want to participate in something like this if the Judge/Project Manager (lol) didn't know what he/she is doing. I was gonna write this tonight but I forgot.
- I have a story that I thought was good, but it is 539 words. It's called "She Blooms Like a Flower." I will put it in the stories list anyways. Hope you like it, if it's okay.

- Hey, I'm just going to enter what I think is my best writing so far and you can read however much you like of it that you think gives you a good enough sense of my writing style. This is easier for me then digging through it for the perfect 300 words that can stand alone, and I don't want to go with older works because I have definitely improved since then and I want you to judge my best stuff. If that makes sense. If you would like me to do this differently, let me know and I will try to figure something out.

- AWWW... I don't have a story or writing that's just 300 words... The shortest I have here is 500 words, and I don't even think it's good enough for this. =(((
- I'm actually going to address this in a message to the entrants. Why don't you enter something you're happy with, and then give me a guide in your author's notes about what part to read. I want to get a good sense of how you write, but I also don't want to read a million novels, you know?
Mine Is 307 Words. Can I Still Enter?
- What if the entrant uses a multitude of writing styles and hasn't found his/her own style that remains consistent?
- I'll still want to see the kind of facility you have with words. It's fine if you don't have a set style, this may help you develop it, and I'll be editing everything for the final product anyway.
