Hi! My first contest!
I am looking for a scary story, but here’s the twist. I would like a story that will make me fear a cute and innocuous animal, that is normally thought of as harmless. The cuter and cuddlier, the better!
These are some examples of critters that fit the bill:
Fluffy Kitten
Bunny Rabbit
Hummingbird
Pigeon
Butterfly
Hamster
Squirrel
Deer
Goldfish
Make me shudder at the sight of a squirrel… or run screaming from a ladybug!
Here’s an example along the lines of what I am looking for, of course you guys will come up with something much better:

“The Butterfly House was filled with people on this warm, sunny day. Upturned eyes gazed in awe at the living artwork created by thousands of multicolored fluttering wings in random flight.
Suddenly, and in perfect unison, the butterflies’ wings stopped moving. The effect was stunning. Impossibly, none fell to earth. They remained suspended, perfectly still, in their mid flight poses. A slight electric hum could now be heard. Everyone in the place was dumbstruck, looking at each other, before their eyes were pulled back to this unprecedented spectacle, of air filled with hovering, immobile butterflies.
Now, before their eyes, the spectrum of the butterflies’ colors began to fade. Soon, they were all a dull, steely gray, their exoskeletons seemingly transformed to metal. Each adjusted its wings to a perpendicular alignment, arranging themselves in deliberate patterns. Each wing, now a wafer thin razor.
The people were stunned, silent, frozen. No one spoke. Until the butterflies descended, with blinding speed and deadly precision. And then the screaming began.”

1. Don’t pick an animal that is already considered repulsive, scary, or dangerous, even if you personally think they're cute, like
Spiders
Bats
Rats
Scorpions
Snakes (on or off a plane)
Bees
2. Preferred length less than 2000 words
3. Please run spell check
4. Prewrites ok if they fit, but fresh writes get bonus points!

I looked into its cute brown eyes as it stared back at me. The squirrel’s face twitched and its tail swooshed up and down.
