1000 Points To Motivate You into Action

No, I don't mean action stories, haha.

Alright, I am an American citizen. And right now I cannot be more disgusted with that fact. The way things are going in this country, I'm determined to make sure my children are born canadian.

And the cause of all this? A short YouTube video showing just how badly disintegrated our government, our rights, and our own sense of action has become. Why is no one fighting back? I'm hoping, with this contest, to inspire people to do something. So, this is what the contest is about:

Step 1. Watch Video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE76LQwT6qA&mode=related&sear%20ch=

Step 2. Write a science fictional (maybe with some humor in it for added points) story inspired by this video on what YOU think America will be like in the future. If you can't write stories, write some sort of essay, though I do find essays rather dull...please, be creatiive, just RESPOND. So, while I'm looking for the sccience fiction stories, really I'll take almost anything at all relelvant to the video. Prewrites aren't allowed because you have to see the video before you can write about it.

*My favorite genres are horror and humor. Just a hint.

Step 3. Read other's stories. Not a required step, but it might be interesting to see how other people responded.

Step 4. Do something. Again, not a required step, but...after watching this, can you really let this country go to hell?

Step 5. I pick a winner. You all clap politely and pretend not to be hurt. Lol I may add on more and bigger prizes as a surprise, we'll see ><'

Rules-

Nothing more than 4000 words, my attention span isn't that long.

Follow all the steps.

Prewrites have been allowed only if the note "I have read and followed all of Elfy's rules (especially the video one)" is somewhere clearly visible on the story.Perhaps in the author notes?

So far that's all, good luck ^^

I don't care what country you come from, you're allowed to enter. I'm not going to discriminate ^^

If you don't know much about what America is like, that's ok. It's supposed to be the future, everything would be different anyway ^^

      Freedom of Speech?

The guy was disrupting the meeting. The idea that he has equal time with the speaker is ridiculus. His behavior was antagonistic and out of line. His intent appeared to be to disrupt the meeting. What would you have done?

From the clips shown on the news (not just youtube) he appears to have a mic, which they cut off. Thats a big jump to say disruptive if they gave him a mic. He was ranting but if they had let him finish his rant instead of trying to silence him it might have gone down differently. Was he being an arrogant little prick? Absolutely. Should he have been arrested for this? No. If that were the case most of the people walking around today would be arrested. Come to think of it a few could use a good taserin'.

    hardly the countries fault

they were private security, not real police. The guy who zapped him will probably get sacked, and the kid will most likely sue the company and get a million bucks.

The most amusing thing about America is its insistence on democracy, despite being a republic.

    Hmm.

It seems the intent of the guy asking the question was to disrupt the gathering and he was fairly successful. He fought with security all the way. His manner in asking the question was to antagonize rather than to receive information. It was not a forum for equal time, but rather to ask questions of the speaker. If you were security and a man disrupted the meeting, refused to step down, and vigorously resisted you; what would you have done? Your job, I would suspect.

if you dont want people asking you awkward questions, having an open mic after your speach is probably a bad idea.

The guy was way out of line. He was a huge disruption. The security team had tried to get him to stop and then he resisted arrest, they didn't know what else to do. I know some think that the taser was wrong and abusive, but I don't believe it was, it may not have felt good, but it wasn't doing any harm. The guy was in the wrong, not the security team.

I would say by the look of the video he was being tazored because he was resisting arrest. Yes, that jumping around and flailing, and yelling "What the *** are you doing," and trying to get away counts as resisting arrest.

Second I think he was being arrested because he was disrupting the meeting as stated before. Sure we have freedom of speech, but they also have the right to ask those who are being disruptive or obnoxious to leave their meeting if they so choose. That's for the university and Mr. Kerry's staff to decide and it's their right to decide that. People can shout to street corners, but they can't come into my home, or office, or church, or buisness, and say whatever they want where ever they want when ever they want. People have the right to ask people to leave their property.

That meeting was designed for people to ask questions, this person didn't even let Kerry get a word in. He had no intention of asking a question. He was throwing accusations, with no room for discussion.

He was asked to stop, and then his mic was turned off. They tried to escort him off of the potium but he still refused.

I think this person came there with the complete intention of making a scene, and getting arrested, and the whole nine yards. He wanted attention for his cause, and he got it- national media coverage is pretty good for his cause if you ask me. Though most people probably think he's looney.

I think he completely realized what he was doing, and did everything possible to proove to the world his own "conspiracy theory".

    the guy is a senator

and has been for how many years? if he so surrounded by sycophants that he couldnt handle one loudmouth?

us politicions get it waaay too easy if that was considered disruptive.

I just couldn't get over the huge grin on one of the security's faces. He didn't need to be tazored and he didn't need to be arrested. He could have been asked to leave. they cut off his mic, but, they didn't ask him to leave.

And he was the one disruptive? Well calling all those people in and making a huge scene of it then brutally tazoring him because he didn't feel he deserved to be arrested.

We need better laws in this Country.

I too am an American, and I am also discusted with the government. However, not the democrats have a foot in the door, mabye things will change for the better, or mabye not.

It's really quite sad, I love many of the Ideals that are part of America, but so many people have destroied that wich was good and beautiful. This is not the same America that my Dad grew up in. Now there si so much scandal, deciete, and hidden cruelty that it makes me sick. I wish I could leave the country, but it's just not possible to take my family with me, and I am NOT leaving them here.

Well, as far as day to day living goes this isn't a terrible place to be... depending on what your day to day life involves. I'd do something, except for the fact that I do not dare make waves lest I get arrested and held without trial as is happening so often here. If I get arrested than who will take care of my family?

All I can do is hate teh government in secrecy, and hope that you arn't some governmental spy who will somehow trach me down and make me dissapear

      Whoa, hold on there

I still believe in the goodness of people. I still believe this country can become better. My comment on having my children born canadian was more of a joke, an exaggeration to emphasize the point of this contest.

I don't believe we should be so afraid to fight for what we believe in. And I do think this country is worth fighting for. Just, without weapons and violence, because that's what I'm trying to prevent.

no, I also believe in teh goodness of people. Beileve me, I love teh ideals of America, and I also love a lot of teh people here. As I said, this country can still turn arround and be good, esp[ecially niw that the ddemocrats have a foot in the door again *though I'm not democrat myself*. I think our country is worth fighting for, but I dare not make waves. There is just too great a risk, too much at stake if I do. There shoudl be no need for weapons and violence, not in this day and age. People are supposed to be rational now.

I'd be risking my family and their and my freedom. To me the risk of loosing them or having them suffer because I dared make waves is something too horrible to contemplate. I will not make waves, the danger is far too great.

they have all sorts of things they do. Like putting people on airline harassment lists and never taking them off them, arresting people on bogus charges and refuse them their rights, put them on pilice harassment lists so they're always getting pulled over and ticketed, refusing to help them in any way when they need government intervention, ect. They do this all the time.

why wouldn't they? They've done it to dozzens of people who have made waves. Freedome of speech is a joke, we can say what we want, but only as long as the government doesen't think you are making waves. You ask why they would do this? Well, they have done it before, and I have seen no evidence taht would suggest that they have stopped doing this.
