The Writer's Challenge: Round X

~*~

I have been having this idea for a quite a while in my mind, and now, I have finally put it on paper – or rather – the computer screen ~

This is the start of ‘The Author’s Challenge’ Contests. This is going to be a series of rounds till we strip down to the great finale, worth great prestige and a nice batch of awards.

~*~

This is Round X.

In this round you must place in your Best Story. It can be any genre, ‘except’ adult, abuse or erotica. The contest is universal and accessible to children, so let us keep the ‘obscene’ things to a minimum.

The panel of judges shall view and comment on your stories then select a certain amount of people that shall continue onwards to the next round.

The judges may be harsh with their comments. Only enter if you have a good heart and can take criticism easily. Critiques shall be toned down, so that we may explain our reviews truthfully and yet keep your entire honor.

~*~

Before joining this contest in ill-advised hurry, do take a look at our requirements. If you join this contest, then you must continue onwards till the very end.

Some of the rounds shall allow pre-writes, but most will ask you to write new stories. Not very long, but challenging. It will be a journey for you guys and for us.

You will be asked to switch genres and styles and must meet the deadlines, or else you will be eliminated. It is very intense, so always try to the best of your efforts.

Every round, two to three people may be eliminated. These people may not complain, whine or insult any of the judges at any time.

Please make sure, you can continue with the Rounds, if you wish to enter.

~*~

There are certain rules for Round X:

~ No erotica, adult or abuse categorized entries.

~ Please, pay attention to grammar and spelling.

~ Use spell check, or better still, use the MS Word spelling checker.

~ Keep it under 3000 words. No more.

~ Take criticism constructively – NOT personally.

~ Any genre is acceptable, except those prohibited above.

~ You may enter only once, and Round X is held only once to please enter your best write.

~ Be sure to read the requirements. Any winner or qualifier – on not pariticpating in the next rounds will be stripped of his trophy and points – yes, I can ask a moderator to do that.

~ Curse me all you want, but no offense to my collaborating judges.

~*~

Thanks and bless you all.

~*~

Hoping that you would qualify for our next rounds and participate.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 19, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 100, Silver: 50, Bronze: 25, Honorable mention: 9 people
  • Final notes:
First off, the judging is a very long and
on going process, each udge scores the entries,
they are fractorized - so on and on ...

    Surprise, surprise, suprise ~

I must say, I am completely ASTONISHED
    by the results. Completely ~

Some of my favorites did not qualify, yet
actually those that got a moderate review
from all judges, made it to the top ~

A lesson for us all ~

It is very important to reach out to
not just one audience, but the whole lot
    of them.

There were some 26 entries, but only 12 are qualifying
    to the actual challenge ~

The qualifiers got an HM, and must join
the Writer's Challenge, the special group
where you will get notifications of all
    contest and challenges ~

any of your stories, as the nature of this
contest. He was VERY critical, and highly

This gives you an idea of our tastes ~

It is with great regret, that Ken will not
be able to conitue judging because of his
    new moderator responsibilities and kids.

This whole challenge is a very tough one,
it requires skill, dedication and hard work,
not only by the qualifiers, but by the
    management as well ~

I thank Saej and Yoshi for their incredible
judging skills that they lended for us in
this contest, and also you all, for
    paticipating and making this contest
    - successful!

To all the non-qualifiers, some of you were
by ninety-scorers, but you lost with the
other judges a few points ~ well, just goes to show
you how very impotant it is to please not
just one part of the panel, but the entire
    one ~

For the qualifiers, a hearty CONGRATS!

Please join our wonderful group for this
challenge in order to proceed furthur ~

    You are all winners ~

    Thank you ~

    Good luck ~

    What?

"Any winner or qualifier – on not pariticpating in the next rounds will be stripped of his trophy and points – yes, I can ask a moderator to do that."

Do you mean points and trophies gained through this contest or all in general??

Let me be more precise. For example if you get through to ROund 1 that comes after Round X and decide not to go on (and have won anything - hm or any placing - in this contest) then I can ask a moderator to reopen the contest so I could remove you from the contest (thus also removing your trophy and points) to get someone else in.....

    Closed for Judging

This contest is now closed for judging.

I, and the other judges, will spend some time going over these stories and then report our findings as soon as is possible.

There are 26 entries here, so understand that this could take some time, as we are looking for the best stories.

I would also like to point out that as a judge, I have not entered into the contest. Asfand thought he would give you all a fair chance by keeping me off the playing field. (just kidding)

I can't speak for the other judges, but when I finish judging all stories I will do a mass post to all of the participants letting them know how they scored and why. I do not want to post any judgments until I have them all and I intend to keep them secure in a word document until I am ready to share.

Yes, 26 entries is QUITE alot my friend!

Let us take our time. We are only going to take 15 of these entrants onto the next rounds, so all decisions must be well-thoughout.

    Nine down - 17 to go ...

I have went through nine of the stories and have 17 to go.

It's a long process, as I want to give each story a fair shake.

Also, you will note that I do not comment on any of these stories. This is by design, as I do not wish to say anything that might sway the other judges.

When I get all the way through the stories I will forward my results to Asfand and we will take things from there.

    Good luck to all!

    JUDGED ~

    Okay, I have judged ~

Excellent entries, you all did give your very bests in this one ~

The entries were overwhelmingly brilliant ~ some great talents ~

10 entries got 90 and above, and we all know how hard that is ~

    Excellent ~

I hope the other judges are done soon, so we can get onwards ~

I finished judging yesterday. I suppose I'm a bit harsh with my criticism. Not all of them were well received. Hmm...

I can't say I'm nearly as generous as Asfand. Only Six entries made 90's and above with my scores. However, three made 89's. lol.

There were some excellent stories in here, and some great foundations with amazing potential.

Can't wait for the final results!

I just finished judging the contest and I have sent the results on to Asfand.

I will say that I see a lot of talent here, and the only reason I did not comment on these stories is because I was being highly critical (due to the nature of this contest) and I did not want anyone to feel disaparaged or discouraged by my ratings.

Keep writing, and good luck to all!
