"How it all Started"

"Six minutes from now, one of us would be dead. That was our fate. None of us knew it was coming." -The Book of Fate

With those few sentences writer Brad Meltzer draws in his audience to one the best books I've read in long time. And now, what I want you to do, is draw me in for another story. I want the best beginning you've ever written; I want it to be excellent, mind-blowing, awe-inspiring, and captivating.

Rules:
~~A beginning doesn't have to be long to bind a reader; in essence it is the first page. That is all I need- the first page.
~~I want you to show your creativeness; I want your descriptive flare, your best ever.
~~As you might have guessed by now (or perhaps you haven't), pre-written is allowed. I honestly don't care if its fresh or old. The age of it shouldn't determine its greatness.
~~Erotica isn't needed in a beginning. Please, leave it out.
~~Please, no gay/lesbian stories.
~~Profanity's allowed. Make it an "R" level if you want.

Here we go. Good luck and have fun.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on September 15, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 125, Silver: 75, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
    Why, hello again.

First off, I want to say thank you to all the entrants for submitting their marvelous stories. Every one had an excellent beginning, and every one was different in a great way.

I first went through all the entries and commented on them all, but then--come judgement day--I went through just the intial paragraphs (usually the first two). And the listed winners stood out. Some of them had explosive starts, and others had descriptive, and emotional beginnings.

Congrats to the winners, I urge everyone to give them a look.

Once again, thank you to everyone that entered. I hope you'll be around for my next contest.

    Cheers!
    ~Andrew~
