17th, 18th and 19th Century Fiction

The Rules

1) The main action of your story must take place between the years 1600 and 1899. In your author's note, include the year/s in which your story takes place (unless it is mentioned in the story).

2) Your story may be in any genre you want, but the main facts of history cannot be changed. Research is essential. However, alternate history will be accepted, as long as you identify it as such in your author's note.

3) Try not to go over 3000 words.

4) If I find three or more instances of improper grammar/punctuation in your story, it will be removed from the contest.

5) Enter as many times as you like.

And yes, I know it's very selfish of me to hold a contest where the whole point is my favorite time period. :-) Now get out there and write for my own personal amusement!

oh this sounds like fun!Now i have a story that would be good for this contest though it starts off in the future. Then it goes back in time would this be good for this contest? Perhaps you should just read it and see for your self.

As long as most of the plot takes place in the past, it'll work for the contest. Go ahead and enter. I can't wait to read it! :-)

    wow

Hehe, you certainly love historical fiction! A good handful of your contests seem to involve that. Awesome.

If you like Alt. History stories, there's this really good book by (Harry? Henry?) Turtledove called "Guns of the South" which is set during the American Civil War wherein everything is the same...except time travellers bring General Lee AK47s.

    Great book.

I'm very interested in doing an alternate history involving the Ottoman Turks in the New World...unfortunately due to a commitment to another story and lack of thorough research, I may not be able to make the date. If not, good luck with the contest anyway.
