Once upon a time...isn't how this contest begins.

So I've been a member of Storywrite for over a year, and I have yet to host a contest! So I've finally decided to host one :) I want to be amazed by your writing -- which shouldn't be hard considering some of the stories I've read here.

First, the rules!

1. No typing LiKe ThIS (it really bothers me). And no 'chat lingo', unless it's important to your story (if someone is having an IM conversation, for example)
2. Minimum 500 words -- unless you have something really dazzling under that, I really don't want anything to short. No maximum word limit, but please don't make it too long. I have a rather short attention span, unless it's an absolutely fabulous piece. Try to make it less that 10 pages on a Word Document.
3. Pre-writes are allowed, although I'd rather have some new stuff. However if you do have pre-writes that match the options, go for it!
4. You don't have to put which option you chose in your author's notes, although if your story is kind of vague on which one it is, it may be a good idea.
5. NO EROTICA! I don't enjoy it at all. It makes my eyes feel like prostitutes. Any erotica and you're DQed.
6. No poetry please.

I can't think of anymore rules right now, but if some pop up I'll add them!

These aren't rules but..suggestions? The types of writing I like I guess. I like attention to detail, and stories that really get inside the characters' minds. I like very creative metaphors and similes. Avoid cliches. Spell check!

And now..options!

1. Fantasy
a) A story about lycanthropy -- you can be creative here. It doesn't have to just be a human turning into a wolf!
b) Vampires -- For this option, and the above option PLEASE don't give me the usual stories -- I really want creative twists here. If you only have the cliches, avoid these subjects.
c) Anything elf, faery, dragon, ect. Again, I want it to be very creative, no cliches please. d) Tell the story from the point of view of an "elemental" -- someone who embodies a natural thing (earth, trees, wind, ice, fire, ect).

2. Horror/Suspense
a) A story about a school shooting --either from the point of view from the killer (get inside their head!) or from the point of view of a victim. If you do a victim, be sure to describe the killer from the victim's view, and what they were thinking when they saw the gun pulled.
b) Jack the Ripper. I have a weak spot for the serial killer -- I really enjoy stories with a unique twist, and if you can come up with an original Jack the Ripper story, you're golden :)
c) A serial killer -- they can either be caught or not. Please don't make it TOO gory (if you're thinking of writing a Saw type of story, don't). I don't mind blood when it is necessary for the story, but gore for the sake of gore is just..no.
d) A kidnapping. Why did it happen, did they catch the person or not, what was the kid's reaction? ect.

3. Stories about genocide or environmental issues. Kudos if you focus on Darfur. Write about someone fighting to change our world for the better -- to stop genocide, save the whales (wolves, trees, any animal or natural thing). I love environmentalist pieces that have a point :) I'm atreehugger ;)

4. The world is ending. How? Why? Natural disaster, or humans bringing it upon themselves? Does anybody survive? What happens after the end?

Good Luck, and have fun!

can it be parts of a story? since you want to keep it relatively short? I have one that would fit your fantasy piece plus the horror... problem is put together it's over 20000 words so far so I'm hoping parts are acceptable

parts are fine, as long as they make sense as a story themselves. go ahead and enter i'm excited to judge my first contest! it's been on for only a few hours and already has 8 entries..so psyched! but yeah, parts are fine

Hey guys, sorry this is taking to long to judge. I have an exchange student who just came to live with me, and I've been trying to spend alot of time with her. Try and be a little patient, sorry again for taking too long
