Okay, this is the first contest I've run and so it's going to a pretty simple one. Just write me a story (or several if you're so inclined.) Well that’s the premise so I hope that’s got you thinking.
Now for the not so fun part – the rules.
1) StIcKy CaPs and ALL CAPS are allowed (I’m looking for a story so as long as I can read it right to the end, we’re good.)
2) Prewrites are allowed. I am tempted to judge them a little harsher than new entries though, so they’d better be something really special. I know a good story when I read it though so if it deserves to win, it will.
3) Not that I ever read it, with the exception of it getting tossed into some of the books that I read, but I’m going to allow adult themes as well.
4) Correct grammar, though hugely beneficial, is not mandatory. However, if I can’t chose between two entries for a trophy then the better written one will most likely pick up the points.
5) Multiple entries allowed.
Now, they weren’t so bad, were they? Actually they aren’t exactly rules, more like guidelines. So, why not submit me a little something.
Most of all just have fun with this and let your imagination flow. I like people to have fun with what they’re writing, hence Prewrites are getting a slightly harder time. You just don’t get the fun of a contest with something you’ve written before.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on September 2, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 250, Silver: 125, Bronze: 70, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: Well, I finally got through all 89 entries! I was hoping to be able to make some sweeping statement about all the stories but they’re all so different and quirky in their own way so I’m glad I took the approach to deciding the winners that I did. Still, there are stories that I loved that are still going to miss out Well done all.
Now to the main part, in reverse order.
HM: Breathe, Make Me Proud & As Annie Sleeps
All three of these stories are wonderful. I loved the whole structure of Breathe, while As Annie Sleeps just blew me away with its simplicity. Make me proud, like the other two was just a beautiful story that, if I’m honest moved me to the verge of tears. Congratulations to their writers.
3: Forbidden
A truly wonderful story that I found gripping right from the start. I loved the construction of the story, and how it kept me thinking all the way through. As I said in my comment on the piece “the ending caught me by surprise but maybe that’s because when your lovers are reunited I thought that your lead had gained redemption.” Excellent work.
2: In this Place We are Everything
What can I say? Even in this huge contest, this story stood out for its unique approach. It evokes emotions that feel at the same time familiar and fantastical. Again, I’ll turn to my original comment because it reveals what affect the story first had on my thoughts – “They say that a picture paints a thousand words, but it seemed that each of your sentences painted a gallery of pictures, perfectly.”
And the winner…
1: The Green Cat’s Eye Marble
This won primarily for the reason that it was exactly what I was looking for. It was a story that made me care for the main characters. Even knowing that they were going to succeed my heart was still in my mouth with anticipation. There really is nothing that I could fault with the entire piece except maybe that it ended. Truly exceptional and I think a worthy winner. Congratulations.

No, there's no word limit.

Do you mind reading a story that is uber long?
Maybe 10000 word-ish? Haha. If you don't want to read that long of a story, feel free to remove it from teh contest =) I wouldn't blame you. I'd be pretty annoyed to read that long of a story. Hmmm, but that I am believed to have ADD or something >>
