words

EDIT: I do NOT want words you think are 'important', 'have a big impact on the world', nothing like that. I DO want pretty, polysyllabic words like sobriquet or verbicidal or frottage. So PLEASE, no more words like love, or trust, or that Hallmark crap. I've had to delete too many entries, and if people just read the contest description, I wouldn't have had to.

Okay, so I love words. That's a little odd, I know. But I do.

I love the way they roll over your tongue, I love finding out what they mean, I love the strange spellings and inconsistencies of the English language.

So, for this contest, I want you to give me a word. Just one word.

I know there's already a contest like this (here, if you're wondering) but this contest is slightly different to that one.

I'm not looking for impact, or a story in a single word, none of that. I just want a word that you adore, that you think is the single best word in the entire human language.

The word MUST be English. No matter how nice the word is in another language, the translation could be absolutely dispicable. So make it English. If it isn't in an English dictionary then sorry, but you're disqualified.

The word must obviously be spelt right.

You don't have to put a definition (I'm perfectly capable of finding that myself) but if you really want to then sure, go ahead.

You can enter as many times as you want. There is no limit to knowledge or vocabulary.

If I find a truly fabulous word, then I might make the prize higher. I'll probably make it higher anyway. So even though it's pretty low right now, it'll change.

    Okay, so I got a few hopeless entries which were all quickly deleted, but all the entries I had left after that were quite fabulous. It was a hard decision, especially when it came to ordering the top three.
