November's New Member Contest

In the United States, November is tradionally the month of Thanksgiving. Give us your best thanksgiving story. It doesn't have to be about the holiday, but just something you are thankfully for. All Genres are accepted, but please keep it G-rated.

Please note that entries that have the above prompts will be considered before all others.

The Rules

1. Must have joined the site October 31, 2009 through November 30, 2009. You may enter if you joined on October 31th only if you did NOT enter October’s New Member Contest.

2. Prose only. No poetry. If you wish to enter a poetry contest visit our sister site AllPoetry here:
http://allpoetry.com/home

By joining StoryWrite you are already a member of AllPoetry too. Just use your StoryWrite username and password to log in.

3. If you collaborate with another member, both members must qualify as new members--see rule 1.

4. G-rated: No adult or erotic category writes. Your story must be viewable by all age groups. Keep this one G-rated in theme and language.

5. Only 1 entry per person.

6. Must enter by November 30, 2009.

7. Word limit 5,000

The Suggestions

1. Check your story multiple times for typos and check back several times before the contest closes to see if you think you should do edits as a result of some of the feedback that you get. You will have a better chance of being considered for a trophy if your piece is well polished by the time it is judged as a finalist.

2. Since this is an interactive site, take the opportunity to read and comment on some of your fellow contestants. It is a great way to start getting to know other writers and initiate contacts that will most likely return the favor and read and comment on your works. This will not affect the judging of the contest, but it will help you become accustomed to interacting with other writers on the site.

3. Keep your readers eyes in mind when choosing your font and background colors. A story that is easy to view is more likely to be well received by readers. If you are in doubt about whether or not your type shows well against your background, then opt for white background with black type. You can always change it after the contest if you want to experiment with colors

4. Be sure to read all the rules. It doesn't hurt to read them twice. It would be a shame to be overlooked for trophy because some silly rule was not adhered to.

Happy writing and best of luck to you all.

my story has nothing to do with thanksgiving!? or about anything to be thankful for...argh i'll have to write a new entry to replace the old.

  • Thanksgiving? Man...that really limits people

It doesn't have to be about the holiday, just something you or your character is thankful for.

okay...in a way you can always find something similar in a story...in my story the idea of being thankful is not that apparent...but I hope it still qualifies...
