Hook Me In A Sentence

5 Minute Contest

Oh gosh, if you had thought I'd gotten tired of 5 minute contests,
you are wrong!

Like I said, I am addicted to them and if you are interested, look it up on my profile for another three 5 minute contests.

What? They're fun! (don't deny it)

Here, I have yet again another idea for a short and fun contest. At least, I think it is.

Your Task

Write me ONE sentence

One sentence that you believe can hook any reader into reading the rest of any story.

See where I'm going here?

You needn't have written the story, nor should you steal it from anyone else's.

All I want is the first sentence which you think can grab a reader's interest into reading more, if there actually was more.

The Rules

  • ONE sentence
  • I'm thirteen, so I'll leave you to judge what you think I should or should not read
  • Have fun!!!

Points will go up if I see fit. Usually happens though.

Also, by joining this contest; you are giving me the right to use these sentences. I will however, credit you, of course.

Remember...

ONE SENTENCE

And good luck

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 15
  • Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 400, Bronze: 310
  • Final notes:
Good god, SEVENTY-FOUR entries. Seventy-four incredible and ridiculously amazing entries. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD YOU PEOPLE MADE IT FOR ME TO JUDGE?!

I started out with what must be at least thirty finalists. Yes, so many of you were that good and I wanted to put so many more in (honest!) but then I had to be strict and choose the best. Slowly (let me just add the word agonizingly here) I cut off around twenty-something of my finalists till only six were left.

I added 1100 more points to the entire contest. Imagine the first bloody winner winning 500 for a simple sentence! This was really good. I was astounded with the entries, they were saddening, happy, mind-blowing, curiousity-arousing, funny and so many more in just one sentence. Let me just say again, THIS WAS BLOODY HARD TO JUDGE!

And so first prize goes to...

Le Masquerade-She new how to kill people, she knew how to make them suffer, so why did she let him live?

    Secondly...

Jack Necron- As Leon fell backwards from the pain, one thought came to mind: "It hurts like hell being me."

    And thirdly...

Someday Hero-Once upon a time is such a cliche lie but then again, happily ever after is too.

Wonderful entries, everyone. I had a hard time debating wether to remove from the finalists list or not (because if I don't, it's going to take a far longer time judging. But I'll already have told you if you were in the finalists anyway).

Thanks you so much for making this contest a success! I hope to see more of your works in the future!

Oh my god, every contest I do, no matter how simple, if it is New Writes only, never gets entries.

    But you...gosh! Unfair

Blast! Didn't make the finalists...Congrats to those who did!

Awesome contest by the way. I've had that intro swimming around in my head forever now

  • I know the contest is over, but isn't it slightly unfair that all the entries weren't viewed?

    • It's closed for judging, dear. The contest isn't actually closed yet until I've finished reading and commenting on every entry, oh and have judged it, of course.

      • Oh, I see! I'm sorry, my misunderstanding. I'm new to the site, and I thought it meant the contest was over. I apologize.
