Total Rules Broken: 14
Current Total DQs: 4
Note to all readers:
Read my damn rules before you enter. I am so sick of telling people to read rule number eight and the contest has only been up for a few hours. I will send you a message warning you, but I am not reading it until there is an option number in your author's note.
It’s been a while since I hosted a contest and I’m feeling a little down right now, so I think it’s time to read. I’ve hosted a couple of contests on this site, but not nearly as many as most of my friends, and I’m feeling a bit behind. I’m not in a specific mindset and I’m not looking for any specific genres, so I’m going to add the most overused type of contest of all to the mix. It’s time for an Options Contest.
Before you enter my contest, or even consider entering my contest, I want you to know that my standards are very high. I don’t want to struggle through some so-so stories. I want the best. And I’m not good at sugarcoating in my comments, so I’m going to be honest. If you don’t want honesty, please don’t enter.
Time for the options:
Option One:
Gay/ lesbian romance and fiction. I’m particularly interested in this and have hosted complete contests on this subject, but I want more than that right now. To be honest, I’m more interested in the ‘gay’ than the ‘lesbian’, but I’ll accept both. Now, I’ve read a lot of these stories, especially the ones by my friends. I’m asking very nicely that if there is a comment from me on your story, do not enter it into my contest. I don’t want to reread it. And as for abuse slash, I’ve read enough of that. Don’t include it unless it’s really relevant to the story. Same with cutting.
Option Two:
Descriptive pieces. I know this is a wide arena, but let me specify. I want stories with little or no characterization. I want stories with amazing descriptions or stories that are completely inside your character’s head, or stories with only one character trying to accomplish something. This may be a little vague. If you have any questions, send me a message.
Option Three:
Suicide/ cutting/ murder/ death/ bloody. I’m grouping all of these things together for a reason. They all create the same feelings. For suicides or cutting, I don’t want some overly dramatic, cry-fake-tears, feel-bad-for-me piece of ‘writing’. I’m not interested. Make it realistic. As for murders, I like two things. I like planning, serial killer pieces and I like in-the-heat-of-the-moment pieces. I have to warn you, I am very picky about murder pieces. For death, I mean someone coping with the death of a loved one. Do with that what you want. For bloody—you can figure it out.
Option Four:
Loss. I don’t mean death-loss this time. I mean losing a person close to you in a figurative way, like the moving away of a friend or a breakup. I don’t want it to be better for both of your characters, either. I want to feel genuinely sad that they no longer have one another.
Option Five:
Song stories. I know this is a very small category, but I want stories about songs. Stories based on songs, stories about bands, stories with original songs in them, stories with songs I know in them. I have to warn you, My Chemical Romance, Cake, and System of a Down are the only bands I really like, so if you’re basing songs stories off of songs, you might want to try one of those. I’m in a very music mindset right now, so any of these things will be good.
Option Six:
Stories about writers. That’s pretty self-explanatory. I don’t care if it’s a story about a writer with writer's block, or a writer who kills people, a writer whose stories come to life, a writer who plagiarizes his best friend’s story, or a writer who goes insane and can’t separate reality from fiction. Whatever. Go crazy.
So those are my options. If you have any more ideas that you think I’ll like, message me and I’ll think about it. Okay, I think it’s time for the rules. I really couldn’t care less if you don’t like them or if they’re what you live for. This is my contest.
1. 500 min, 100,000 max. I do have a life and I can’t spend weeks reading. People that have broken this rule: 2
2. If I’ve read it, please don’t enter it. I’ll allow prewrites but I’m not crazy about them. I’d rather new stories. People that have broken this rule: 0
3. I really couldn’t give a damn if you curse. Go ahead. But it better sound natural. People that have broken this rule: 0
4. Don’t bash anything. Okay? I mean, unless it’s your character. Characters have their own opinions too, you know. People that have broken this rule: 0
5. Grammar/ spelling better be good or I’m not even going to bother reading. People that have broken this rule: 1
6. No erotica. I’m not in the mood. People that have broken this rule: 0
7. Two entries per person. More than that and I'll delete everything by you. People that have broken this rule: 0
8. If you don’t include the option you chose in your author’s note, I’ll DQ you. If you chose option three, please include a sub-category. People that have broken this rule: 12
I am the contest host. I reserve the right to change the rules at any time. I reserve the right to delete any of the stories that break these rules or do not pertain to my contest. I reserve the right to extend this contest or end it abruptly if I so choose. After all, it’s my contest.
So go write. Have fun. If you want to.
