Okay everyone.
My first contest, please make me proud!
This is pretty basic.
SCARE ME!
Make me shiver, make me shake...
without blood and gore.
I know, that's impossible, right?
WRONG!
Not for the really good writers.
Remember in the old days where horror movies didn't need a single drop of blood to be scary?
Well this is...like that.
Also, I need to learn how to write horror without blood and gore and anything unnatural... It's a skill I am yet to master.
Rules:
1. This was my original first rule: "MUST be UNDER 600 words. Meaning, it ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BE 600 words. You can make it 599 or under. The point of this contest is to be brief but UTTERLY AWESOME!!!"
But,I understand how this is unfair and I will be a little more lenient. Okay, a lot more lenient.
There is no word limit, per say, but try to make it short. I do not want a novel size story. I just want the scary bit.
It can be five lines, if you want.
You can copy a part of a prewrite and post into a new story for this contest, if you can be bothered to go to that much effort (which isn't a lot, really.)
It can be a fragment of a story or a scary chapter of a not-so-scary story...doesn't matter.
Only enter something with the number of words ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY and relevant to the theme.
Please don't go overboard...If you do i will not have enough time to read and comment to your satisfaction...
2. NO blood, gore, deformities, magic, or ANYTHING unnatural that the average person wouldn't cross on an average day.
UNNATURAL meaning things like magic (even though I believe that science can't explain EVERYTHING, natural or unnatural). Unnatural including things like talking skulls, zombies, superpowers, people with genetic mutations that allow them to move things with their minds...
I hope you get the jist of this.
3. That's about it...
Now.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on July 18
- Rewards: Gold: 150, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: I must say at first i was a little disappointed at all the criticism this contest was getting...if you don't like it, don't enter.
Secondly, some of you people must not have read the rules, or must have a complete lack of respect for them.
Nonetheless, it was still a joy to host a contest and read the entries.
Thank you for entering.

Just a thought (don't kill me lol)
I think it's unfair to say "real writers" don't include blood and gore in their horror stories. In fact, I happen to find cannibal stories in particular to be quite frightening--and they're very gory. This looks like a fun contest, but what do you mean by "unnatural?" I'm guessing that murder is the only thing that falls into this category, lol. If I were you, I'd broaden the theme a little bit more. Not many people are going to enter this...

OKAY!
To everyone I have offended, PLEASE BEAR WITH ME, I WILL EDIT THE CONTEST OUTLINE SO I CAN COMMUNICATE WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY A LITTLE BETTER.

Hi there Intoxica!
You've eliminated almost everything I've written because of length, gore, or unnatural. I've written a whole lot of stories about crime and horror. Eyes Pried Open has reminded me of a story which may work in this contest. I'm going to try it, anyway.

Hey Andy, you still writing those cannibal stories? I just finished my first right now (it took me 3 days) and it's pretty gruesome. I'd be honored if you took a peek
.

I must admit I am disappointed. What is unnatural to you? I have to ask because in this world what isn't natural - or a part of life - Horror can come in many forms from physical to mental. I do believe you are going to have trouble with this contest.
You probably started it with good intentions, and a challenge, but I indeed think it is a little insulting to the wonderful horror writers on this site.
This has potential -If you open up to more possibilities. -
-
Bet you'd have fun with the under 600 word limit. That's hardly enough time to open a scene for horror, is it?
-
-
Noesssssss...
I think everyone who reads my writing knows I go into detail.
Otherwise to me it isn't much more the a flash fiction peice or a framgment of a story. -
-
By definition flash-fiction is about that length. *Likes writing that length* But i couldn't manage a horror that short.

Can it be a horror poem?
