Storywrite Changes
Hi All,I've decided that most of the stories on storywrite are just too short. So I'm adding a minimum length of 5,000 words to any new stories added. Any existing stories will need to be brought up to this minimum within the next three weeks or they'll be deleted.
Thanks for understanding, and I think this will really help our writing improve.
Update: Just Kidding!
Happy April Fools Day!Ciao,
Kevin
And some responses
If one of these is yours and you're offended I posted it, let me know and I'll remove it. This is all in good fun, and I fell for several april fools day pranks this year, so you shouldn't feel alone
And if you were just pretending, well, thanks for playing along
Hey Kevin,
I saw that you want to make a minimum of 5000 words for stories, And I find this unfair to the short story and poem writers on the site... some people cannot find words to fill 5000 when they only need maybe 1000 if that... And I see that some of your works are not 5000 words or above...
Well, thank you for your time and I hope that you have a great day!
If that's an April Fool's joke, NOT funny!
Hey out of sheer curiosity, this thing that you have up with having to have 5000 words, is it a 'requirement'?
I think that the 5,000 word minimum is not a good idea. I suppose implementing a minimum is not a bad idea, but 5,000 is quite excessive, considering that it is a large short story for the standard of the short story nowadays in America and Europe, especially for novice or new writers. It's about twenty pages in a book, an average length for a professional writer (Isaac Bashevis Singer's stories are rarely any longer, and he's a Nobel Prize laureate author). I just joined Storywrite, and I did it because it allowed and encouraged creative freedom. But creative freedom has no minimum or maximum word count. This is just my humble input on the new policy. Thank you for considering.
Hey. I see that you have changed the rules so that every story has to be 5,000 words. Is this for real? I do not know if I can do that. It seems very hard. I'm not saying anything bad, but you have stories that are under 5,000 yourself. I think that is a little bit hypocrite. Please explain. -Confused-
If you make that 5000 word limit storywrite will become a hasstle to use. There are young writers, such as myself, that cannot write 5000 words at once, so just to write a simple entry for a contest or one chapter for a story it would take more than one day. If you are hell bent on making a limit, make it 500, or 1000.
Oh, and if this is just for April Fools day, its a pretty stupid joke
The 5,000 minimum is going to kill me. None of my stories are long enough to make the cut. You are ruining the lives of the poetic and short story writers on this site by making the minimums. Most people don't write that many. There are thousands of stories that aren't long enough. I'm sorry to complain, but you really should have had a vote on this.
I like all of my stories as short as they are. If you change the rules, some of my favorite authors' stories will also disappear. I'm sorry to whine to you, but you really should keep the minimum down. I don't want you to go around and delete my stories just because they seem too short. I have some really nice poetic things on here that should make the cut. I've won a few medals in contests for my short stories. I don't wanna lose my hard work now. I'm also so busy that I can't write 5,000 words all the time.
You really are ruining my life with the new 5,000 words thing. This is a concern. I really, truly apologize if I'm making you sound like a bad guy. I just can't make the cut. Please don't take the stories off... Please?
Negotiation!
All stories that are already on here, let them stay. Make the writing thing incapable of making any more stories under 5,000 words. That way, authors can keep all of their old stuff and you also get your way too.
There are a lot of young writers who don't have the persistency or the potential to write that much. I'm sorry to say that the new storywrite change that you have planned would just make a complete failure out of a lot of stuff.
I may be biased, as I write short stories, but there are many other who might be in my tracks. Please don't add the new 5,000 rule.
Thank you for listening,
XXX
Then later:
YOU GOT ME! I can't even believe that I forgot that it was April Fools Day... T_T You got me good Kevin. I was about to freak because I work so hard just to get 1,000 words in there!
It's kinda unfair to writers to have to write at a 5,000 word limit.
PS: I kinda figure this is an April Fools joke.
Please don't add that new rule you just made. It's cruel to those who write short stories.
Hello, Kevin.
I would like to send my regaurds. I have been using storywrite for close to twwo years now, and haven't spoken to you. now that the oppurtunity has come, I thought I'd say hello along with the following. Hello. *waves* thank you for making such a fantastic site.
Although, I admit, right now I am a little peeved. You have said that you will no longer accept stories over 5000 words. 5000 words is a lot of words. I am a novelist and have been regurally posting my chapters for as long as I have been on this site, writing this novel for years. most of my chapters are only 2000-3000 words long. I think I have only one cahtper that is 5000 words. I have a comady script that is only a couple hundred, and other stories that don't come close to 5000. I can't legnthen all that unless I put complete giberish in my work.
Also, I'd like to ask about poetry on this site. I do not write it, but I have a close friend who does, and she posts it on SW so I can comment. While I realize that I have an account on Allpoetry, I find it more convinoint to just be alreted of her poems here. Then there are quotes, there are many, many contest following the basis of quotes. Those are only a couple lines, sometimes only a sentence.
I have no problem with you setting a word limit, but 5000 words is a long story and many people are going to lose a lot of their stuff. If you could at least message me back and explain to me why it has to be like that, please do. Thank you very much.
Then later: lol, sorry. I just found out it was an April Fools Day joke. he he, got me. I must have missed the one last year. I was racking my breain, trying to figure out why you would do that. ha ha, got me. Sorry if I was mean in my messege, I didn't reread it, so I don't know.
Anyway, thanks.
Ohkay, I really really hope the 5000 minium is an April Fool's joke! Because I think some of the best stories are the ones told in the least words!
Seriously. You should put a mininum of say ... a thousand words. Not five thousand! I have way too many stories [complete stories] that are under 5,000 words!
Thanks for your time,
Hi kevin, i was just wondering do ALL the storieS in SW have to be 5,000 words. Can they not be less?
Hey Kevin, I have a problem. I'll try to remain dignified about this, however, I was rather upset about your April fools joke on storywrite. You see, I didn't know it was a joke. I'd forgotten that today was April fools day. I had a story that was only around 3,000 words and I couldn't figure out how to stretch it. I deleted. Then I was in the chatter box everyone was talking about the big "joke". I asked what they meant and when I heard I felt sick. Is there anyway to retrieve it? It really was a decent story, if a little on the short side. They can't all be novels. You should have left some kind of indication that it was a prank. I don't really blame you. I should have realized what day it was. Still, how can I get it back? Or Can I get it back? If you can help or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Do all stories seriously have to be over 5000 words?
Or is that an April fools joke?
500-1000 would be aceptable to have as a limit, but 500?
There are famous short stories that are wonderful and under 5000
And there are younger people on this site that cannot write that many words in one sitting, it might take them multiple days to come to your standards.
What! All our stories will be deleted because they're under 5,000 words? That's insane! Some of the best stories on here are under 3,000 words, including all time popular. I think, instead of doing this, all stories posted after a certain date that are under the 5,000 word limit should be deleted, and the ones under the word limit that have been here before that time, should stay, regardless. Don't do this to us, please!

I just want you to know that I approve of the new minimum story length, and I would like you to forward to me any and all messages of people freaking out and forgetting what day it is. Thank you. Note: HAH!

Then later: Hey Kevin, thanks for taking the time to let me know. I couldn't find it when I tried to 'undelete' though. That is the way my luck goes. Something wrong with the system and I find it. Like those Hansel and Gretel bread crumbs I always find around here. It really is a shame too. Although it was kind of on the short side it was a pretty good story. It was about a guy that turned an April fools joke around on the site supervisor and then the site creator. April fools a day late. No worries!
Ouch! He got me back!
