Member Of The Month For Feb.

Come see who the member of the month for Feb. is!

The Special Spotlighted Member for this month on SW is :

Diddi

Congrats!!

1. Where did you grow up?
I was born in England, but my Dad was in the Army, so I grew up in all sorts of places.

2. What is the first thing you remember that perked your interest in writing?
I really don't know when I started writing. I seem to have always done it. Like breathing, it just happens.

3. Did you go to college/university?
I have been in and out of these places at times, but I never gained any diplomas/degrees.

4. If so, what was your major?
I don't think I majored in anything really. I've done a couple of years of Applied Psychology, some History, stuff like that.

5. Outside of college, how have you educated yourself beyond secondary school?
Through various jobs I've had. Reading, writing and generally being an insanely curious person.

6. How's the weather?
The weather is fine here at the moment, we have had a lot of floods in this part of the world.(Australia) We're getting spectacular lightning at night and lots of thunder.

7. What's your favorite color?
I'm rather keen on muted colours, such as purple, mauve, lilac.

8. Food?
I cook most of our food, it's plain and ordinary. Meat and two veg style. We can't order deliveries here, so if we want a pizza, I make it. I have a large country style kitchen and pantry which is full of stuff I've made and will probably never eat!

9. Pastime?
Reading, writing, painting, drawing. Crochet, watching cricket on the TV.

10. Music?
I like most music. If it's well written, I'll listen. My favourite musician is Kitaro.

11. Writer?
These have influenced me the most: Kipling,Dickens, The Bronte sisters, Churchill,
King, Auel.

12. TV show?
I don't really have a 'must see' show, but I quite like the "Survivor" series. I watch cricket, tennis and Aussie rules Football.

13. Movie?
There are so many that have affected me. "Brief Encounter." "Independence Day."

14. Book?
Jane Eyre.

15. Poem?
"Bellbirds" by Henry Kendall.

Info about your writing :

1. When did you first begin to write?
I don't really know when. I think I was born with a pencil stuck behind my ear.

2. What kind of stories do you prefer to write?
I don't have a favourite genre. There are some I haven't tried yet, but I want to.

3. Fiction or non-fiction?
Either suits me, I tend to blur my fiction so that it sounds like non-fiction.

4. Have you published anything?
Not in the accepted sense. I did a series of articles for a Zoo many years ago.

5. When are you most likely to have a great writing idea?
It usually happens at the most inconvenient times and when I have no paper to write on.

6. What is your reaction when the muse visits? Drop everything and write it down or tuck it away in memory and write it later?
I tend to drop everything and write. I especially like it when the muse visits when I'm doing housework.

7. Do you consider yourself a spontaneous writer or do you tend to plan things out in advance?
I do both, it depends on what the trigger was.

8. How does reading other authors affect your writing skills?
Reading other authors is one of the most important things I can do to improve my writing.I don't copy their style, but I will take something of value from each book I read.

9. When you sit down to write something is it fun or work? I don't think it is really either, it's more of a painful process. Once it's written and edited, it belongs to the reader.

10. How do you get past writers block?
I read. I also ban myself from the word processor. Telling me I'm not allowed to do something usually creates the desire to do it.

11. What feeds your desire to continue writing?
I'm not sure, I don't think it's an ego trip for me.

12. Who are your influences?
I would think that everyone I have met over the years has had some influence on my writing.

13. How do you know when your story is finished?
I don't think I do know when they are finished. I consider them 'resting.'

General things about you

1. Hobbies?
Non writing ones are: Embroidery, drawing, painting, crochet, knitting.

2. Pets?
Three dogs, Penny, Peter and Taffy. Three cats: Smokey, Tiga and 'Precious Princess Millie'

3. Talents?
Nope, haven't found any yet.

4. Jobs?
Housework. Apart from that I'm retired.

5. What advice would you give to growing writers?
Read, and write, write, write. Learn how to edit your own work.
One tip on editing, read your work from the bottom up - the story won't get in the way then and you can see the faults more easily
