One thing many will notice about the new storywrite: it only allows you to choose plain color backgrounds.
My impression about backgrounds on stories (being longer than poems) is that they were irritating and difficult to read.
I may be wrong. Backgrounds may be restored. I want to give it a few days to see how we do on the current system, then will re-evaluate the choice to have plain text backgrounds only. Hang in there! I know, change sucks

The background is not what makes the story it is the story and the plot itself. I do not know why a background should be something to worry about although it gave the story a nice view. I am bias about the background issue... I like it but it is not something to die for. The plain color backgrounds would do for now. storywrite has gotten incredibly confusing since the change... the backgrounds were nice, especially on the authors pages. but now the whole site is kind of...blah. :) i completely agree with sufficated -

my whole thing sucks and it was better the old way. i dont even have a profile anymore.it used to let us be creative and express our selves. i want the old site back.it was fun. this one is plain. -

Backgrounds are distracting, and while I was surprised by the change, I fully support it. -
I agree with you that I am a bit frustrated with the plain backgrounds. While internet offers good images, it makes the story hard to write, so I think the best way is to restore the old backgrounds!

If background is an issue than keep them in light tones with black text only. It's been tested by the medical community as being the easiest read. Preferrably white background with black text. The loss of graphic is really disappointing. As my last story had everything to do with the graphic. Not to mention it is posted twice here with different paragraph amts.
