Fun Stuff Around StoryWrite.

Hello, StoryWrite community.  I am Violet Moodswing.

I am your StoryWrite activities leader and host for site fun. I am in charge of the “party” in our little corner of cyberspace. The way we see it around here, the best thing any author can do is keep reading and keep writing. What better environment to find the inspiration to keep writing than one in which we have great fun.

“Where is this fun?” You ask.

Well, that’s what I’m ‘bout to share with ya’ll!

Yes, I am from Texas, and yes, we really do talk that way.  It’s a wonder any of us from the Lone Star State ever learn to spell properly. “Hooked on Phonics” does not do the trick with our way of saying things. You might say we are all bilingual given we have to learn both “Texan” and proper English.

Now, back to the fun.

Contests-Contests-Contests

Keep your eyes peeled for “StoryWrite Presents” contests. These are a series of StoryWrite sponsored contests that always reward it’s trophy winners with either complimentary site memberships or really big points.

Our last contest, “Fan Fiction”, reeled in a slew of great writes. You may have seen the winners spotlighted on the front page. The top two places scored gold and silver StoryWrite memberships.

The judge’s panels for these contests are volunteers from all over the site. So, if you run across a StoryWrite Presents contest that is a genre you would prefer reading rather than writing, you can probably be on the judging panel for that particular contest. The judging panels are formed specifically for each contest. Just let me know when we are running a contest that perks your desire to read and judge entries.

Obviously, it would have to be one that you don’t intend to enter.

The Rag Mag

Because inquiring minds want to know.

Juicy gossip—well, sort of.

“The Rag Mag” will be a series of articles on folks around the site. They will be based on interviews and observation and…

They will always be flattering, I promise.

It will be a good way to get to know some of the authors around the site and find new fodder for your favorites list. The columns will include staff members, new members, young members, old members, dog and cat members—you get the picture.

If there is someone on StoryWrite whose writing style you admire and would like to learn more about them, let me know. I will see what I can do about it. Just keep in mind that I will only do these columns with the subject’s permission. Some people may not want to be interviewed or spotlighted. It is always at the individual’s discretion whether or not they wish to participate.

In The Spotlight

I am always on the lookout for good stories to spotlight on the front page. We have many wonderful writers on the site that merit a little publicity. Unfortunately, there are only so many hours in a day and I can only read so fast. For this reason, community involvement in the spotlight finding process makes a world of difference. Besides, you guys don’t just want to read what I like.

So, when you run across that story that has you saying, “WOW!” click the “Suggest for Front Page” link in the right hand margin. You may soon see the story that impressed you “In the Spotlight”.

I am sure that you have also noticed the occasional column showing up on the front page. If you write a column pertaining to anything about StoryWrite, commenting, site function or the ins and outs of writing here on the site or in general, be sure to let me know. I am always looking for good columns to feature.

Simply message me a link to your column and I will take a look. Of course, all suggested columns or stories will be taken into consideration, but all of them may not be chosen for spotlight.

So, there you have it. A few of the goings on around the site that you might want to get involved in to help make your stay here even more fun and productive than it already is.

Stay tuned for more fun stuff as we go along. Happy reading and writing to you all.
