  • After some thought, we're now trying another alternative to the way backgrounds were changed several weeks ago. On larger monitors, we'd made it so backgrounds with a left edge repeated again on the right page of the screen. Now they are only on the left side again.

The background editor has been simplified too for left-edge backgrounds, as no edge color is required. Happy story writing!
  • Last week we had some exciting changes: New (similar) logo, pretty background header, lots of fixes. Cost of contests went up for awhile to 200, but is now back to 100 due to problems with current contests. Chat has had many updates and now notifies you when you have a new message. Drafts, with autosaving, to help prevent losing data. We've updated how backgrounds work too. Enjoy!

  • Everyone wants more reads, and the best way to get them is by advertising your stories, either in the featured box, or the 'rewarding comments' page via the Stories tab.

Featured box items now automatically always have a reward for people who click them, so they're encouraged to comment more.

Rewards now *double* the amount of points you get for a comment. Our hope is that this will encourage longer, more critical critiques.
  • We've been growing a lot, and are very proud of the progress! Please consider entering our new members contest!

Also, the site will be down from 10pm Wednesday the 15th until approximately noon Thursday morning, while we move to a bigger server. Thanks for being a member!

  • Thanks to everyone for their help and contributions! Also, comments are now auto-judged based on their length when you add them. When or if the item owner judges them, the point bonus is adjusted. Hopefully this will be simpler!

Contests got a huge reworking, if you were having trouble before. Lists's 'next in list' should now work correctly as well.
  • Sorry for the recent frustrations with stories all showing as one big clump of text. This has been fixed, and all affected stories fixed to the best of my ability. Board replies and glitches with contest judgement are now fixed as well. Thanks for your patiences and support!
  • Quite a few updates went in. Featured box is now above the chatterbox, and the 'local navigation' area has a title. We've added some fun colors to areas of the site; expect them to change from time to time!

During this process, there were occassional problems with showing stories, adding comments, and sending message (all messages went to kevin, eek!). Those should all be fixed, but keep kevin posted if you have problems. Thanks for being a storywriter!
  • Allpoetry's big upgrade and downgrade yesterday wreaked some havoc with storywrite as well, and I'm sorry for the impact. Adding stories should work again now, and please let kevin know if you see problems with anything else.
  • For users with small to medium sized screens, they shouldn't see any gap along the sides of the page (the "edge background", so it will look much more like allpoetry. The sidebar has been made more minimal as well.

Tiling backgrounds now don't show the "edge background" either. We're listening to you!
  • Some internet explorer users were having their web browser 'freeze' when they visited storywrite. I've worked around the bug in Internet Explorer, and all should be able to visit again now.

Sorry for the issues, there have been a lot of changes while getting ready for allpoetry
  • One comment was missing from all stories, and it's now being shown properly. Apologies for those that were frustrated that a comment wasn't showing up.

Also, silver/gold members should now be able to use rich text in their brief descriptions, including secondary images for gold members.
  • Apologies for those who, over the last few days, have noticed that their comments did not show up on a story. Only stories that had no previous comments were affected, and no comments were lost - they just weren't being shown. They should all be shown again now.
  • Thanks to all of our members for making storywrite such a great site! If you're interested in helping support it, our store is now open!

You can check out the features, but the big ones are free members must comment 3 times each day per story they want to post, and can't add pictures (besides their 'face'). Gold members get rich text editing and multiple pictures.

The top free commentor of each day will now get a free week of gold membership. Also, the top commentors lately at storywrite will get free 3 month gold memberships.

Get a free silver membership by helping out with the site! Our greeters and teachers each get free memberships.

Thanks for your support, and we're excited about the continuing success of storywrite.

Coming soon: CASH prizes for contests!
  • Nearly daily updates continue to add great features! Join in the fun of an add-line story under 'stories'. Low on inspiration? Do a freewrite! (also under stories) We're experimenting with an allpoetry-like featured box, and comments will now be generating twice as many points as before. Happy story-writing!

Coming soon: the end of free gold memberships!
  • Lists are finally here! Get to them from the 'stories' page, or add to a list from the sidebar of any story or while you're adding a new story.

Testimonials are like author page comments, only hidden to others until the author approves them.

Countless other bug fixes as well, of course. Enjoy, and happy writing!
  • Update: Some images were still not posting, but this should now be fixed.

Storywrite is now temporary home to the Allpoetry classes! Eventually allpoetry will host their own and we will focus on story classes, but for now, enjoy the mixed classes.

There was a bug with adding new pictures to contests and stories, which has been fixed. Sorry to those frustrated!

The design has updated some, with curved edges and a new 'my links' navigation area along the top. We're excited about the simplification. And a new color! Happy story writing!
  • Apologies for the last week of a somewhat bumpy ride here at storywrite. All known bugs are now fixed, and you should notice the site is quite a bit faster as well. If you notice any more bugs, please post in the Forums. Next up: Lists, Classes, and Testamonials.

  • You should now see a link to 'customize background' on your story, group, contest, and user pages! You can even upload custom backgrounds, and left-justified ones! We also have a host of other features and fixes, hope you enjoy!
  • I'm very excited: backgrounds are coming back soon, in a way that I think looks way better even than before, gives you more options, and does a fair job of making sure things are readable. Should happen in the next day or three - stay tuned!

  • Our recent upgrade brought a LOT of changes, and we hope you can stay calm and try to take it all in.

Our excellent help system can help - there's even a tutorial!

Frequently asked question: Background choices are limited right now, but we plan to restore them in the future.

Separating Storywrite from Allpoetry makes it harder to show your stories and poetry all at once, but will allow authors to focus on stories better than they could before. For the time being, stories from the old storywrite/allpoetry are still shown at allpoetry with a forwarding link. New stories will not appear at allpoetry.
  • Sergeant Otto apprehended a criminal attempting to sneak out of town today with nearly 17,000 comments stashed in the trunk of his car.

"It's unlike anything we've ever seen", he explained, during our interview. The comments had been missing since the upgrade, and had many authors frustrated. Sgt. Otto vows that it won't happen again.

In other news, a "RSS feed" of a user's stories now available on their author page. This is a new kind of technology for blogs, that makes it easy to keep up with your friend's stories from the comfort of a news reader.

Countless other bugs have also been fixed, particularly on groups and contests. Thanks for hanging in there!

  • Thanks for sticking with us during the difficult upgrade process - I apologize that it has been so rough.

    • Adding friends should work now.
    • Editing stories - The edit button didn't do anything for some users - this should be fixed.
    • Profanity - Many users had their age set to 0; this has been updated to their allpoetry age, and their profanity settings were cleared if they are over 16.
    • Each user was given 2 points for each critical comment they've made
    • Trophies have been credited to those who requested them in the forum

I'm excited at the level of comments so far on our stories. Join a writing group, check out a contest, and read some stories!
  • How do you get points for comments at storywrite? By the rank the story author gives you!

How quickly you "rank comments" may determine whether people decide to comment on you more. It also encourages people to comment on stories for users that are online - because they'll only get credit for it if the user comes back to judge it.

Each star is worth one point, except with 1 star rankings flagging a comment as spam and giving no points.
  • Storywrite is now disconnected from allpoetry, aside from that the same login and password can be used. Your "5 stories" will show up on your allpoetry account, and direct people to here.

As a part of the transition, stories from the "old" storywrite, when it was together with allpoetry, have been partially left at allpoetry, and link to their new versions here. This will last for a month or two, but will not be permanent, and will not show any new stories you add or edit here.
  • One thing many will notice about the new storywrite: it only allows you to choose plain color backgrounds.

My impression about backgrounds on stories (being longer than poems) is that they were irritating and difficult to read.

I may be wrong. Backgrounds may be restored. I want to give it a few days to see how we do on the current system, then will re-evaluate the choice to have plain text backgrounds only. Hang in there! I know, change sucks
  • Story writing is very different from poetry writing, but shares the same potential for enjoyment and improvement online.

The new storywrite.com addresses this by focusing on story writers directly. Memberships are still shared with allpoetry.  Welcome, story writers!
