Every writer goes through this one way or the other. There is no way to get past writing something without having at least one writers block.
I hate it and I go insane. I'm currently having a writers block on my own novel right now. It's amazing how you can be on a roll and then BAM! writers block. Well there are a few tips and tricks to avoid the horrible disease that I find works most of the time.
If you are writing a novel like myself, the best thing you can do is when you are about to start typing out your chapter, take a moment and think how the whole chapter is going to be about. How is it going to start? How is the chapter going to end? Is it one character's point of view or more than one? Make little notes for yourself. I have a whole notebook full of notes of chapters that I written. It does help.
If for some reason that doesn't work, take a break. Not a long break because then you get all lazy and don't want to write any more. Short and sweet. Sometimes you just need to take a break from your characters. Maybe write something small like a poem or a short story that isn't related to the novel.
Sometimes I get writers block on poems. I don't know if I'm the only one, but for now I will just assume that you all have that problem. I always look in the dictionary. Weird, I know. But honestly, it really works. You can learn a cool word and you want to use it in your poem and then BOOM! you get floods of ideas. It's cool. The dictionary is your friend.
Another good way to get unstuck is get a friend to help you. One that really understands how you write and know how you think. Make sure this person understands your story too. Sometimes the ones who don't write have really good ideas.
Sometimes it helps to talk to a little kid too (only if you are doing fantasy stuff.) Little children have one of the greatest imaginations than some authors do. I am teaching preschool at my high school and I just love talking to them about my story. Sometimes its hard to keep them focus what its worth it.
Try this tips and tricks and see if they help you. If they don't...sorry dude. I tried.
Having trouble getting past those pesty writers block? Are you bashing your head because you don't know what to write? Well stop bashin' your head and read this.

Thanks for the tips! I've been having a huge problem with my writing. There's been this wall in front of me for weeks on end. I'm working on nothing and I can't seem to spark up old thought patterns. It's because I took a break and, well, now I'm paying the price for it.
However, I'm going to keep these tips in mind when I begin my newest novel idea. Thanks!
