I, for one, love writing realistic fiction stories. Here are some important things to remember when writing them:
1. No fantasy whatsoever. Once you add unicorns or nymphs or magical powers, it becomes fantasy.
2. Once you add monsters and such, it could be considered as . . . well, I'm not sure what the monster genre is, but vampires are often included amongst normal people (Twilight, for example).
3. Unless you are entering a contest that doesn't require dialogue, USE A LOT OF IT! Dialogue makes the characters and the story more real. Unless it is incoherent. Then dialogue is irrelevant. Anyway, using coherent dialogue will personify your characters more and make it seem like the story is actually happening.
4. Most people like anticipating big events. In case you haven't read Twilight, then you might not know what I'm talking about. The point is, when writing realistic fiction, since you aren't using made-up characters, you have to make it suspenseful in a realistic way. You have to sustain the anticipation of a huge climax to make the reader keep going.
